After all the shifts and twists and disruptions we’ve already been through this year, this week has a welcome air of consolidation and settling in. Two major mergers between the masculine and feminine occur this week. Our inner lives are coalescing into a state of harmony and unity, and we have the opportunity to experience a greater, more aware connection to the people in our lives.
Venus and Mars meet on Tuesday. The goddess of love, money and what we value is the planetary archetype of the feminine; warrior god Mars, who rules how we push ourselves out into the world, is the planetary archetype of the masculine. When they meet, feminine impulses and masculine drive come together as one. This can play out in a sweet encounter with a special someone, but don’t overly focus on that being the result. The union also occurs within. Agendas and action align with desires and values; we know clearly and passionately what we want and we have the motivation to go after it.
The cosmic lovers’ annual tryst is more poignant and open-hearted than usual this time around, because of what each of them – and each of us – has gone through in the past weeks. Venus has been awakened by Uranus, refocused by her retrograde and galvanized by two confrontations with Pluto; Mars has been awakened by Uranus as well and is shedding baggage as he approaches his own clash with Pluto. Past relationship and financial dynamics have come up for reexamination. What we desire, what we value and how we go after it have been shaken up and pared down to the essentials. Our relationship to everything these planets rule has changed, and so our experience of their meeting will be different this time. We are more raw, more exposed and more vulnerable, and so the blending of male and female energies will be more complete.
There is also a quality of culmination in this meeting, because it is taking place in the last degree of Pisces, which is also the last degree of the zodiac. Venus and Mars are meeting at the degree of ultimate sacrifice, all-encompassing Love and total immersion in the interconnectedness of all life. Their conjunction makes it easy to grasp that there is no separation between heart and willpower, feminine and masculine and desire and drive. There is no separation, period. We are all in this existence together, and what happens to one affects all.
Friday’s Taurus New Moon repeats the melding of masculine and feminine, with mind and heart working in unity, and moves it into the practical, earthly aspects of existence. The plans that we envisioned under January’s solar eclipse are settling into physicality; it’s time to give them shape and sustenance. The sprouts that shot up under the Aries New Moon are beginning to flower; it’s time to both nurture and enjoy them. For more on the New Moon, read my report on the site.
The message of the Venus/Mars conjunction will be with us for weeks. After their embrace, Mars enters his home turf of Aries on Wednesday, then Venus follows on Thursday. They will run side by side through Mars’ terrain for most of the spring and meet again in Venus’ Taurus home in June. As they travel through impulsive, instant-gratification-seeking Aries, they may express the sign’s free-agent quality more gently, because of the all-encompassing union they experienced in their Pisces meeting place. This memory will be fresh with Mars as he confronts Pluto on Sunday. Venus, who’s already been through it twice with Pluto, will be by his side as well. Our inner drive and outward expression are undergoing a transformation, as Pluto applies a scalpel to our behavior patterns and modus operandi. Tempers may flare, wills may clash, but it’s just as likely that how we use our energy will evolve. We can’t help but act differently because of the oneness we have experienced. Look at the people in your life as an extension of God and of yourself, and your actions toward them will be forever changed.
