All of nature is bursting with new growth and possibilities, and that’s on offer for us as well. The Aries New Moon is a time to freshen up the face we show to the world and to ourselves. Updating both is in order, to take into account all the growth, changes and refocused priorities we have been undergoing — and to outfit us more appropriately for the journey ahead.
This time of year is always energizing and motivating, but the burst we’re getting now is more urgent, insistent and far reaching than usual. The updating potential of this year’s Aries New Moon is not simply a matter of getting finding a new hairstyle, getting a makeover and clearing the closest of outdated clothes, any of which you may find appealing. Nor is it merely allowing the aspects of yourself to come forward that you have been uncovering and learning to value and appreciate. This New Moon has links to both the Saturn/Uranus opposition and the Cancer/Capricorn eclipse cycle. Significant adjustments are not only in order, but also necessary, to clear up old business and set our lives in order for the long term.
This next phase requires one more round of tinkering in the boundary and personal well-being issues that were stirred up from September 2007 to October 2009. We may have thought we’d gotten our business and house straightened out, but now we see we hadn’t. This New Moon, and the Saturn/Uranus opposition following at the end of the month, show us where attention is still needed. The Sun and Moon are in an adjustment aspect to Saturn and growth aspect to Uranus. Any lingering programming that is limiting or damaging is up for unplugging and rewriting. Mindfulness, discernment and discretion are also called for in the words we choose to define and describe ourselves. Pay attention to your own vocabulary. How are you still thinking of yourself in terms of the way you once were, rather than how you are now? Changing old thinking about yourself is part of the updating process of this New Moon. Be on the lookout for statements that you can’t or don’t do or have something — then look for evidence of how you actually can, do or have it. Odds are the limiting statements reflect a view of yourself that is frozen in time, and odds are you have evolved far beyond it.
The impulse flows in the other direction as well. A clearer awareness of your identity is leading to adjustments in how you take care of yourself. The clarity is making it easier to rethink habits, diet and health in terms of whether they support or interfere with who you are. If you now think of yourself as athletic, for example, smoking and keeping erratic hours are probably feeling increasingly counter-productive. You’ve been getting taps on the shoulder from the cosmos about this for a couple of years. Doing something about it is going to involve less of an internal argument these days. Knowing yourself better means knowing your needs better. If a habit or routine or the state of your health is getting in the way of your needs, this Moon is opening the door to dealing with the impediment. Any tweaking you do now is part of the opening ceremonies for the Saturn/Uranus opposition on the 25th, round four in the five-round rock-’em, sock-’em structural shake-up from fall 2008 till July of this year. This is the last opposition with Saturn in Virgo and Uranus in Pisces; the planets will move their argument onto the cardinal axis for their final showdown in July. That means we’re in the final stage of cleaning up and dealing with our Saturn in Virgo issues and with the restructuring that the opposition has been forcing onto us. So give a good, hard look. Whatever state you leave them in is going to stay with you for a good long while.
We’re also in the thick of preparing for the next big stage of our lives. This New Moon squares the degree of the Capricorn New Moon solar eclipse that took place on January 15. That eclipse shot us in a new direction in terms of where and how we feel at home in the world, privately and publicly. We’ve been making big, fundamental decisions about where we want to live and with whom, who we want in our family and our tribe, what role we want to play in the outside world and what security we’re willing to work toward and build. With this New Moon pushing against the eclipse point, we’re getting a cosmic shove to get moving on those decisions and start implementing them. The last two eclipses in the cycle, in June and July, will reveal how well we’re doing and lock us onto a target and path to it.
Movement should come easily; in fact, standing still should be impossible. The New Moon is trining Mars in Leo, which fuels Aries’ inherent self-starting with flair, playfulness and just a bit of larger-than-life drama. And should you falter, or wonder which direction to go, the Moon’s sextile to Neptune offers a helping hand from the divine or a muse. Creative solutions are on tap, and so is an enlightened or compassionate approach.
Here is Lynda Hill’s interpretation of the Sabian Symbol for the New Moon at 25 Aries, reprinted with her kind permission from her book The Sabian Symbols As An Oracle, the Special Edition:
A DOUBLE PROMISE REVEALS ITS INNER AND OUTER MEANINGS.
Commentary: ‘A Double Promise Reveals its Inner and Outer Meanings’ implies that what may at first have appeared to be simple will probably end up being more complicated than was first imagined. Things may look great on the outside, but internally there could be complications that should be considered. There may need to be an honest appraisal of what was actually said, thought or ‘Promised’, and what is really possible in the real world.
Oracle: It may seem as though there are so many possibilities coming that could change your life on many levels, but ‘Promises’ are often more complicated than we initially think. Is this a situation with integrity or is it laced with duplicity? Look carefully at any ‘Promises’, or outcomes, that were assured or perhaps assumed in this situation. Did you expect more than was actually delivered? One’s rational understanding and emotional desires and responses can often conflict with each other. Consider the effects of the ‘Promise’ on all levels of your being. What comprehension, thoughts and emotions do you have surrounding what was said or implied? This Symbol often indicates a choice that arises between the heart and doing what you want to do and social obligation and knowing what’s right. There is much to be realized and learnt from the situation that has led you to the Oracle. There may be a need to draw another Symbol to get further information, to clarify and refine your direction.
Keywords: Rewards, but what do they bring with them? The possible implications of or reasons for any promises. Something that may look good on the outside, but prove to be difficult. Looking for consensus. Possibilities and promises. The ins and outs of situations. Not turning up.
The Caution: Fickleness, insincerity and two-facedness in human relationships. Expectations without clarification. Reversals of decisions or promises. Duplicity. Manipulating people in order to achieve outcomes. Promising more than can be delivered.
