After four and one-half months of retrograde, Saturn has stationed and will go direct on Saturday. All week we’ll have the sensation of being suspended in time, of being on the brink of stepping out and waiting for the cue. Saturn’s time in Virgo has been one protracted lesson in setting boundaries, tending to our own garden and infrastructure and taking care of ourselves. We have gone deep into this lesson all this year, which has invited us to sweep out the corners, restructure our habits, schedules and lives and treat our own basic needs with seriousness and respect. We have been challenged to take responsibility for ourselves and let other people handle their own business.
If there are organizational or fix-it projects you’ve been meaning to get to but haven’t, this is the time to tackle them. If some are in progress, get serious about them. What have you been working on since the beginning of the year? How have you been restructuring or reorganizing your time, routine, nutrition and exercise regimen and every other foundational aspect of your life? You have been reworking something, even if unconsciously. By this point in the process it’s like the moment in cleaning off your desk when you have cleared away all the paper clips, rubber bands and wadded-up receipts, you have all the papers sorted into piles and you’re ready to put them in the proper folders and wipe down the top of the desk. Go back to your metaphor piles of paper and file them. The time is ripe for bringing the clean-up to a close and addressing lingering details. Starting Saturday, the air will feel different, lighter, more flexible at last, but palpable progress will not happen for a couple of weeks, until Saturn changes degree on May 26 and Saturn’s current ruler Mercury goes direct a few days later. Tend your garden now. It is your job.
All manner of healing issues are being whipped up with super-sizing Jupiter now only a degree away from the conjunction of Chiron, the wounded healer, and mystic Neptune. We have been feeling their combined influence for the past few months and will continue to do so all year. We are coming to a heightened moment in their journey, which is building this week and the next. Jupiter will meet up with each of Neptune and Chiron exactly at the end of the month, for the first of three times this year. (The others are in July and December.) The triple conjunction is also moving into a growth aspect to Uranus, the cosmic liberator and awakener. Jupiter is now in this aspect, a semi-sextile, by degree and will exactly contact Uranus next Tuesday, May 19. This planetary pattern is triggering the question of what is real and what is illusion and may be making us more acutely aware of the ways in which we are or have been damaged (or have been perceived as damaged). It is unshackling us from limiting perspectives and associations and prodding each of us to move into a more expansive and liberated mode of existence.
This is an elaboration of one of the themes of Uranus in Pisces, which has been jolting each of us, since spring of 2003, into being honest with ourselves about who we really are, dropping masks, pretensions and outmoded coping mechanisms, and bringing our true self to the surface. With this triple conjunction of spiritual healing and transcendence linking to this theme, we’re in a growth spurt of self-actualization. For many of us, this involves showing more of the person that we have always been, but I am seeing examples lately of two other ways that this is playing out. See of these don’t have application to your own world. One is that people are starting to express parts of themselves that have never been given voice before. (The most dramatic example of this I’ve encountered is a confirmed ladies’ man, who surprised many by marrying in the last year, now becoming a father late in life.) This is in keeping with the ongoing Saturn/Uranus opposition and all the recent squares to Pluto in Capricorn, which has been breaking us out of old ways of being and instilling a heightened awareness of what is most important to us. Some people are daring to take actions they would have never before, while others are giving themselves permission with the reasoning, “If not now, when?”
The other wrinkle in the playing out is tremendous flux and turmoil in some organizations as the group consciousness grapples with what the entity wants to be. In a number of instances I have been observing key members try and try to steer a floundering organization into a direction they consider reasonable and right. After pushing against the tide – or engaging in the drama – they are hitting a limit, simply unhooking their attachment to the organization and letting the flux work itself out. This can take the form of walking out, taking a leave of absence or continuing to participate on a reduced, personally satisfying scale. If you’re embroiled in organizational politics, consider these approaches as options for liberating the energy you are tying up. Is the group in alignment with who you are now? What action is in alignment with you? This issue will heat up over the next two weeks, as the triple conjunction tightens, and resurface in July and December.
A personal meaning of the triple conjunction will come to light as the Sun squares Jupiter on Saturday and Neptune and Chiron on Sunday. Squares demand action; take note of what you feel compelled to do over the weekend. Some people will be coming up against delusions and fantasy, and some will react by blaming what happened to them when they were four, retreating into a Wii or DVD marathon or communing with the bottle. If you start thinking that you’re damaged, please, please recognize the perception as illusion and ask for another way to view your situation. Immersing yourself in quiet time and spiritual or creative pursuits is a positive way to vent the energy.
Against this backdrop, the week has a series of minor aspects that promise adjustment and productive friction. On Monday, Mars, the planet of our energy and inner drive, makes an adjustment aspect to Saturn, the overlord of structure and rules and currently the advocate of healthy boundaries and care of the self. You may hit a wall, a fork in the road or an imperative from authority of some sort. Even if your impulse is to run off in a certain direction, you do have a distinct and definite choice. Your will is now doing the bidding of your heart, so instead of reacting impulsively, make an informed choice that furthers your desires and values.
The friction aspect occurs between Mercury (thought) and Mars (action) on Tuesday, between Venus (love, money and desire) and each of Jupiter (expansion) and Neptune (transcendence and idealization) on Thursday and Friday and between Mercury and Venus on Sunday. This aspect can often work like sand in an oyster, when an irritation causes the growth of something of great value and beauty. This week, however, the effect is going to be more immediate and combustive. Because the fire sign Aries is involved in each of these contacts, they will give off sparks and bursts of flame and energy. When Mercury and Mars spark on Tuesday, thoughts and words that rub us the wrong way will spur us to do something. While the sparks coming off Venus on Thursday, Friday and Sunday could be slightly frustrating and irritating, with desires being teased and going unfulfilled, they have the potential of creating the charged and flirtatious atmosphere of a screwball comedy. Don’t take things too seriously; have fun with it.
Mercury’s retrograde takes the planet that rules communication and transportation back into the solid ground of Taurus on Wednesday. He’s returning to territory he plodded through at the end of last month. Take a fresh look at details and practicalities that reappear. You’ll have the chance to rearrange them, catch mistakes and put matters on a more firm footing.
Mundane: On a mass level, the current tightening of the triple conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune semi-sextile Uranus has been reflected by the hysteria over swine flu, with Jupiter escalating both the spread of the virus and a media frenzy that is blurring the line between responsibly disseminating information and sensationalizing the situation. You do not have to buy into panic. Take precautions, as Saturn in Virgo counsels, but keep your thoughts positive and optimistic. Energy flows where attention goes, and worrying is praying for what you don’t want.
