Happy Solstice! The big action is on Monday and Tuesday, and we have the rest of the week to work with it. That work isn’t full speed ahead, either. We get regular doses of time slowing thanks to a void of course Moon every other day, which provides a recurring respite to digest and contemplate.
The cosmic lovers Venus and Mars start Monday in the afterglow of Sunday’s conjunction, and odds are we are enjoying a cozy aftermath of our own. Something came together and solidified over the weekend. Many of us had a memorable development in a close relationship, but in the big picture, what’s more important is the depth of experience everyone had in their being. Masculine and feminine energies have merged on an archetypal level and deep within us. Each of us begins the week with our interiors more cohesive, settled and congruent. Our rational and emotional sides have fused into a workable collaboration, with each gaining from and no longer fighting against the input of the other. Our hearts and minds are in alignment, and so are our desires and ambitions. What we want and value we will now unquestioningly pursue. We have every intention of working on it, with Venus and Mars trining Saturn over the first half of the day. This weekend we experienced integration; now it’s time for implementation. Our subconscious lays the groundwork as Venus completes her trine predawn EDT. Mars follows mid-morning — during the first void of course Moon of the week. Under other circumstances, this trine would inspire rolling up sleeves and getting down to nitty-gritty work. In the muted atmosphere of the void, watch how it sinks this new union into the foundation of your life. To shift the metaphor, throwing our energy behind our heart’s desires is becoming part of the fabric of our existence. That fact settles in Monday.
Monday’s void, from 8:20 AM to 1:12 PM EDT, gives a soft launch to the week, a treat we have been enjoying for the past few weeks. These easy times are rest stops for catching up to the restructuring of our worlds and lives (and selves), contemplating and just plain being. Since the Moon’s last aspect before going void is a trine to Jupiter, expect another sociable, self-indulgent easing out of the weekend. Team and community-building grows out of the morning’s activities. Watch how you feel comfortably part of a group. We are gravitating toward newly defined, newly assembled social groups that are in alignment with who we are now.
Once the Moon changes signs, she heads right for a meeting with the Sun. The New Moon in Cancer takes place at 3:36 PM EDT, and it’s unusual for a number of reasons. It’s the first of two Cancer New Moons we get this year. (The second, on July 21, is a total solar eclipse in the last degree of Cancer.) It plays out over two days because the Sun and the Moon have another meeting by declination after 5 PM tomorrow. And, most importantly, each of the luminaries opposes Pluto in the 12 hours following the New Moon, the Moon in the first hour afterward and the Sun during sleeptime Tuesday AM. The opposition is part of the energy of the New Moon, a potent new beginning that cuts us loose from decaying, outmoded concepts and situations involving nurturing, family and security. Major baggage falls away under this New Moon, so set your intentions accordingly. Do that for this Moon phase, and do that for the entire summer and beyond. Since it occurs the day after the solstice, this New Moon is effectively part of it and sets the tone the summer. Cancerian issues are with us for the long haul, too. They’ll be getting a power-up launch with next month’s second Cancer New Moon, which is tied to an eclipse cycle that’s playing through next summer.
This New Moon is one of those moments when everything changes, with no going back. It’s a point of no return in the transformation of the definitions of marriage and family, on personal and collective levels. Shifts in the next month will prove pivotal in reshaping ties to blood and chosen family, as well as in the campaigns for and against legalizing same-sex marriage. (The flood gates will break open on that issue when Saturn moves into Libra this fall and begins squaring Pluto.) The New Moon is also a doorway to an entirely different role for the Mother, as an archetype and in the flesh. Over the past few months, one influence after another has restored the feminine to equal footing with the masculine. Now the Great Mother comes forward to reclaim her power, position and respect. The forms she wears to take center stage now may be raw (after all, she’s been relegated to dark, scary places for centuries) and some of the women who model them in the news for us now may be outright terrifying. Every manifestation serves to bring the maternal force to the surface and to the light. Acknowledge her presence within you and engage in healthy acts of nurturing, and she will come into balance for you. Do this especially for yourself. Nurturing yourself is an imperative of the combined impact of the New Moon opposing Pluto and Venus and Mars trining Saturn. More on this event appears in my New Moon report on the site.
The New Moon flows right into Venus and Mars contacts to Pluto as well. The Lord of the Underworld agitates Venus late Monday evening and Mars Tuesday evening, right after the Sun and the Moon meet by declination. Discomfort or clashing that arise at those times show where we are resisting or haven’t recognized something that needs (or is en route) to evolve. When we’re up against Pluto, acting out of ego is futile. Connect with divine will and your higher truth and they will lead you the paring back and focus that is necessary now.
After two intense days, we get the rest of the week to sit with everything that’s stirred up Monday and Tuesday. Again, the rhythm of the week alternates going with the flow and moving forward. The pattern starts with us floating into Wednesday. The Moon is void of course all Wednesday morning (from 7:25 AM to 12:51 PM EDT). Her last aspects, before going void, are a harmonious link to Uranus the awakener, which jolts us into new emotional perspectives, and an adjustment aspect to Jupiter, which invites us to adopt a different and higher perspective. There are the topics for contemplation Wednesday, when people aren’t in when you phone them, appointments get postponed and nobody is displaying much inclination to get anything done. When the Moon enters Leo as the noon hour ends, we’ll feel energized and inspired to flex our emotional muscles. Take care to act from your new perspective. Say “no, thanks” to any temptations to second-guess yourself or dive into power games.
Thursday the Moon has conversations with everyone. Emotional processing is rampant; don’t take anyone’s reactions personally. The time best suited for conversation and making satisfying headway in relationship and financial issues is mid-day. Early evening, move your body, not your tongue.
Friday morning brings the next void of course Moon, from 8:29 AM to 12:47 PM EDT. The Moon’s last contact before this void is an opposition to Jupiter, on the heels of an opposition to Neptune and adjustment aspect to Uranus. Her brushes with the Aquarius/Pisces traveling party directs our attention (if that’s possible with Neptune!) to their effect in our lives. If you find yourself feeling foggy or slow, you are right in the groove. This is not a morning for operating heavy machinery or doing detail work. Set aside this time for quiet, gentle activities. Allow your mind to wander and explore.
Saturday has very few exact aspects. There are none in the morning and for most of the afternoon EDT. The internal processing we’ve been doing over the week solidifies late afternoon and gives a feeling of firm emotional footing. Acknowledge and celebrate it by taking practical action that makes you feel nurtured. (No, not ice cream or chocolate; enjoy your equivalent of a spa treatment.)
On Sunday, the Moon opposes Uranus and makes an adjustment aspect to Jupiter late morning EDT before going void of course for the afternoon. There’s still more for us to see, realize and break from emotionally, like it or not (and we probably won’t), and another choice in perspective is at hand. We have the rest of the day to contemplate the relationship between how we feel and how we view our lives. The Moon is void of course from 11:29 AM to 5:25 PM, perfect for lazing about on a Sunday afternoon and letting things percolate in the back of our minds. During the void, Mercury makes a growth aspect to Mars. We have the opportunity to put our inner union to good use. Watch how your communications support your intentions and ambitions. We’re talking our walk.
