Weekly Weather Report

Significant Planetary Aspects for:

We’re in the home stretch of our Saturn in Virgo lessons. This is the great teacher’s last month in the sign, and we’re putting the final touches on the foundation of the next 28-30 years. The foundation we’ve been building in Virgo involves boundaries, intactness of self and attention to personal well-being. We have been encouraged to put our own house in order and tend to our physical needs. Every little detail counts. As if to drive home that point, progress has been painstakingly slow, especially during the first half of the year when Saturn was retrograde. We have been allowed ample time to put ourselves on the most healthy, stable, productive footing.

Think of the habits you’ve addressed in the past two years, the changes you’ve made in sleep, diet and exercise patterns, and the new clarity of the lines that you have drawn between yourself and others. This fine-tuning of the self is not just for our own benefit, though each of us is certainly much better off for it. It also improves the quality of the service we bring to the rest of the world. The stronger each individual is, the more effective each person is in relating to and assisting others — and the less likely each of us is to absorb, succumb to or be sidetracked by the problems of the people we encounter. And that challenge is exactly what Saturn has in store for us next, when he moves into Libra, the sign of relationships, at the end of the month.

Before then, much remains to be revealed. Information about our progress comes midweek when Mercury joins Saturn by declination and degree. As the ruler of Virgo, Mercury is in charge of this event. He’s getting a briefing on information that he will take into Libra, which he enters on Friday. He’s also checking back with Saturn on old business from their meetings on August 17 and September 22. That old business is up for reconsideration, and more details may come to light. There is nothing trivial about this discussion. Both planets are inclined in Virgo to split each hair into thinner and thinner increments and take whatever time is necessary for a thorough analysis. The process is productive and every smidgen of information it yields is useful. Expect thoughts and conversations to gravitate to the practical and address personal responsibility and interpersonal boundaries. Matters that have been under discussion may lock into place now, at least in terms of setting the groundwork. This conference also bodes well for asking hard questions and receiving solid answers. Some of them may be bitter medicine, but they are necessary for building a sturdy, reliable foundation.

Saturn’s beginning another conversation in preparation for his relocation to Libra. He’s in the early phase of the same harsh, purifying process that every planet undergoes now when changing signs, and that is passing the gatekeeper Pluto. The contact that is forming is a square, a forceful impact that demands action. It will not be exact until mid-November, but the tension of its approach is already building. This is simultaneously different from and a follow-up to Saturn’s opposition to Uranus. The opposition is shaking, rattling, destabilizing, shattering and taking down structures, some of which Saturn might prefer to keep in place. His square to Pluto operates differently. Because Pluto is in Saturn’s home of Capricorn, there is an element of cooperation among the energies in this square, a vibe that is missing from the opposition with Uranus. It’s as if Saturn has installed Pluto as a contractor and authorized him to do whatever’s necessary to put structures into a condition to support growth and expansion. Some of Pluto’s duties are to remove debris and rebuild after the wreckage of the opposition (using new and improved plans, of course), and some are to rip out and rebuild foundations altogether.

Until Saturn enters Libra, our Virgo issues will be feeling the force of the square. As careful and attentive as we have been to our boundaries and well-being, some deep level metamorphosis is still in order. Be open — because, after all, resistance is futile — to rooting out lingering psychological baggage, particularly pertaining to being responsible for other people’s decisions and business; to revamping diet, exercise and daily routines; and to transforming your attitude and commitment to health and service. Aspects of yourself and your life that you thought were settled will undergo lasting and fundamental change now. The skies have already stripped so much of your existence down to the basics this year. Another paring back is occurring. What remains will be pure and essential.

Mercury undergoes this same process as soon as he enters Libra and runs into Pluto on Saturday. The agenda he put together with Saturn immediately comes under laser-focused scrutiny and fine-tuning. As concisely and efficiently as Mercury and Saturn hammered out the practical details, everything on their carefully crafted agenda is subject to further trimming and refining. Words do multiple duty and take on great power. So you thought you knew your personal bottom line? Saturday’s clash pares it down even more than you previously have done.

The silver lining in the week is Jupiter stationing direct on Saturday. With this turnaround he is preparing, slowly, to catch back up to Chiron and Neptune, who have been his traveling companions for most of the year. He’ll meet each of them again as the winter holidays approach. In the meantime, between now and early December, he will be traveling over the ten degrees of Aquarius he covered between (roughly) the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Watch doors open that appeared earlier and then jammed. As Jupiter turns for his final approach, our internal guidance systems are engaging fully. Information from nonrational, nonphysical sources is leading all of us forward, whether it’s backed up by empirical data or not. Intuition and higher guidance are more trustworthy than anything our minds or physical senses can detect. Ultimately all of these data inputs will work together. For now, go with your gut, not your mind.

Monday: The week starts with a void of course Moon that lasts till just after noon EDT. Use the morning’s edginess (the Moon kicks Mars before going void) to examine the call to action your heart is sending. (Don’t act on it until afternoon at the earliest, though.) It sounded loudly in your subconscious in the post-midnight hours, when cinematic images flooded your dreams and offered you contact with enlightened guidance. Whatever’s running through your mind, you can ground it and bring it into tangible form in the afternoon.

Tuesday: Take a good, long look at what comes up in relationships today. They’ll reveal much about your attitudes toward money and your own self-worth. Information may be startling, disruptive or unexpected. Your frame of reference is being opened. Welcome the fresh air. It is healthy for you, even if a bit bracing.

Wednesday: Mercury’s conference with Saturn begins before dawn, and our mental processes become serious and geared to the long-term well before we awaken. The Moon checks in on the talks before going void for the afternoon. In the formless post-lunch hours, contemplate what you’re seeding and what communications and commitments are in order to cement situations that support your well-being. There are no major aspects after the Moon enters Gemini, aka communication central. So what might an appropriate activity be for the evening? Besides putting pencil and paper by the bedside, that is.

Thursday: Mercury and Saturn conclude their talks in the pre-dawn hours. We awaken knowing our minds and what now needs to be said and solidified. Write down your dream fragments. They may well come to you in the form of a to-do list. The daytime has no major aspects at all. Moods improve as evening fades into night. The cosmos is injecting no static into communications. Take advantage of the respite and initiate major talks.

Friday: Relationship and money issues get a blast of fresh air. Recognize that every break (whether in a situation or your thinking about it) liberates you and opens the door to a better fit with your values and worth. When you’re put to a choice today, go for the route of compassion and love, and remember that you can certainly be a beneficiary of both.

Saturday: Late last night, the planet of communication moved into Libra, beginning a mental and verbal immersion in the give and take of relationships that becomes apparent today. Dreamtime experiences leave us with a smile on our faces that can withstand the day’s potentially raspy aspects. A sense of optimism and all things being possible again fills the air since Jupiter is stationing to go direct. Remember that and maintain an open, generous heart if conversations stir some primal demons or flip into power games. They don’t have to pull you into fear, and neither does the fresh air that continues to blow through relationship and money issues.

Sunday: The aftermath of yesterday has the potential to send conversations out of control. Remember who’s in charge of your life, your emotions and, most of all, your mouth. As the day goes on, opportunities arise to channel all the week’s developments into activity and socializing that is productive and satisfying to you and others. Focus on the positive and interactions flow happily, at least for now. Healthy choices that you made from the heart now lead to peaceful, harmonious, stabilizing encounters.
