Significant Planetary Aspects for:

The Aquarian emphasis in the sky is almost at an end. Mercury and Mars, the planets of talk and action, are making their way out of that sign. Mercury is the first to leave, on Sunday; Mars departs a week later.. Before then, each of them has business to settle with Uranus, Chiron and Neptune. While they’re hurtling forward, Venus begins her retrograde on Friday. Forwards and backwards, dashing toward the future and revisiting the past, it’s one of those weeks that drives home how we simultaneously exist at multiple points on the time/space continuum.

Let’s start with the future. Mercury and Mars are running tag-team through the remaining Aquarian gauntlet, passing points that have already recently been traveled by Venus, the Sun and the Moon. First we talk about each contact, then we act; first we gather information, then we shape our ambitions.

The process starts on Tuesday with a double-header: a growth aspect between Mercury and Uranus, the Aquarian stellium’s ruler, and a conjunction between Mercury and Chiron. We learn something that shows how far we’ve come. It might be a piece of information that would not have been relevant to us previously but now is key to the lives we’re building. It might be information that we could not have accepted or heard before. The importance might not be the actual message, but instead the way it arrives, the way we receive it or the way we send it out. (All you people who’ve recently signed on to Facebook or Twitter will encounter a deluge of communication that would not have found you without those applications.) Make a point to notice what you are talking about now and how you are going about it. Something in your communication, both style and substance, has evolved.

Pay particular attention to the role played by your pet emotional wound. It no longer has the hold on you it once did, and now you will see even more how that is a good development. You may learn something that puts the past even more in perspective, shedding light on your personal history or on the issue in general. Familiarity with issues associated with your brand of wound may uniquely position you to say something that changes, perhaps saves, another person’s life. You may simply find yourself talking about the old situation again, without an emotional charge this time, and without rewounding yourself.

Mars has the same double-header on Wednesday, making a growth aspect to Uranus while crossing over Chiron. Our thoughts and communication styles have evolved and grown more healthy, along with the quality of the information that we let pass through our filters. Now we see how our motivations, ambitions and actions have evolved and grown more healthy, too. Is your behavior more streamlined? More conscious? More targeted? At a minimum, more in line with who you are and who you want to be? There’s a walk-your-talk compulsion to the day. If there’s a disparity between what you’re thinking and what you’re actually doing, this would be an appropriate time for some rectifying. These aspects are an opt-out juncture, where we can choose to jettison ambitions, behaviors or activities that don’t suit the direction we’re heading.

Mercury conjoins Neptune on Wednesday, only to meet again by declination on Sunday. Right after this action begins, Mars gets a briefing from Mercury by declination. The atmosphere is good and swirling by the time Mars dives into the thick of Neptune’s clouds Sunday. Consider it a long weekend of mist and haze. This could be one of the most transcendent times of your life – or it could be among the weirdest. Things are rarely quite what they seem when Neptune is active. The merging of Mercury and Neptune can have a Mercury retrograde quality that encourages confusion and misunderstandings. Deceptions and delusions will be rampant, both old ones coming to light and new ones floating into existence. Get reality checks. How are you fooling yourself? How are you sabotaging yourself? You may well see how.

For some people, this will be a long lost weekend, like the old Ray Milland movie by that name. If you’d like to get through the weekend without needing aspirin, Alka-Seltzer and the hair of the dog that bit you, hold back on the alcohol. A little is going to go a long way. Other people will lose the weekend in escapist pursuits, following the lead of a couple of households I know that stock up on DVDs and snacks, draw the shades and watch back-to-back movies for days.

The idea to emulate in this is retreat. Deliberately step outside your normal pursuits and activities for these four days. Communication may or may not happen, information may or may not be reliable, and assertive action may get nowhere. Pair the planet of action with the planet of universal connectedness and who knows where any action will lead? Cause and effect get whiffy when you shoot an arrow into water. Actions could have unintended consequences or hit unintended targets or simply vanish into futility. So don’t try to accomplish anything. Instead meditate. Sleep. Dream. Envision. Commune with your muse and the divine. Pray and send out intentions. Let matters sort themselves out on alternate levels. On this one, declare a time-out.

Venus, the planet that rules our relationships, money and attitudes about both, goes retrograde on Friday at 15 Aries. She will revisit Pisces next month, turn direct on April 17 and finally clear the retrograde shadow on May 21. We effectively have two months to reconsider everything connected with Venus: the people in our lives, the energy and financial exchanges we have set up, our system of values and the worth that we have assigned to ourselves and our possessions. Some of this reconsideration will arise from the resurfacing of old situations – people we haven’t seen in forever, people who remind us of old flames or bosses, people from old jobs, old work arrangements coming up for reevaluation. (Once Venus slides back into Pisces, watch for evidence of how you used to sacrifice yourself for others, to the point of harm – which you are not doing anymore; right?) Some of the reconsideration will be triggered by developments in current situations that might not immediately present themselves pleasantly.

Every reappearance, every unmet expectation, every unpaid item on the ledger is a measuring stick. Hold it against your current involvements, and the juxtaposition will tell you everything you need to know. You are not stuck in any of these situations. A Venus retrograde gives the latitude of renegotiating the give and take. Even with that latitude, the next two months are not suited for launching any social or financial venture that you’re serious about, nor for buying big-ticket items. The true value – or cost – may be concealed. If you are in a relationship that’s headed into the land of happily ever after, seriously consider waiting until after mid-May to get engaged. Now is a great time to get to know people better, but not an auspicious time for committing to anyone but yourself.
