We should be breathing more easily this week. After January’s turmoil, we are cruising into calmer, if perhaps foggy waters. The outer planets are still very much in control of the atmosphere, but their impact is not sharp and insistent, for a change. Although the restructuring being mandated by the Saturn/Pluto square is still ongoing, their demands are moving ever so slightly into the background while softer influences come to the fore.

The week is filled with significant aspects to Neptune, ruler of the sea of life, who embodies spiritual love and compassion and eases, cushions and blurs our experience of the physical world by linking us to something beyond it. That link can lead to artistic inspiration, to a connection with the divine or some other transcendent, boundary-dissolving experience, or to any number of lower manifestations of the gentle haze this archetype emits (insanity, delusion, illusion, lying, escapism, substance abuse). Neptune is still tight with Chiron, the healer-centaur who traded immortality for a human body and release from an incurable wound. Their collaboration has been encouraging us to get comfortable with our physicality and to experience it and our spirituality as one united existence. Two major conjunctions involving this pair bookend the week. Venus, who rules our relationships, our cash and possessions, our values and our self-worth, meets with them at the beginning of the week and joins Neptune by declination on Wednesday. The Sun and the Moon meet them at week’s end, on either side of the New Moon Valentine’s weekend. We’ll be experiencing transcendence and healing (and perhaps some of Neptune’s lower end) in all matters Venusian, then applying the gifts of Neptune and Chiron to ourselves and the next four weeks of our lives.

This will be quite the break from the rougher side of the relationship dynamics we’ve been experiencing in the past few weeks. Instead of the ruptures, renegotiations and hard truths we’ve been confronting, we’re getting a big application of healing balm. We may see the bigger purpose more clearly in some of those ruptures, renegotiations and hard truths. We may be seeing aspects we didn’t see before, perhaps ways in which we fooled or weren’t be honest with ourselves. We could transmute our recent experiences into art, music and poetry. (For some people, this really will be the route they take.) And after all the sorting we’ve been doing of our relationships and associations and talents, we’re in for blissful communion with the ones that are keepers. The goddess of love is meeting the planet of higher love and then, on Thursday, moving into his home base of Pisces, and just in time for Valentine’s Day, too. Her movements are a perfect opening for expressions of true love — from compassion toward others, no matter who they are, to heart-felt gifts to the people and connections you value most, to highly romantic exchanges with the one you desire. It is a stunning and uncommon build-up for Valentine’s, a day that is often more pleasant and rewarding in concept than in the playing out. It doesn’t matter whether you are single or in a couple or whether you are hungry for romance, discontent, jaded, gun-shy or blasé; Cupid will pay you a visit this week. At a minimum, he will treat you to the milk of human kindness. If you’re hankering for something more exciting, watch out, because this is one potent recipe for romance. Whether it’s real or lasting remains to be seen, but with Venus inconjunct Saturn this week, too, it just might have staying power. (A choice will likely be required.)

In the process, we have the opening to be loving as well to ourselves. As the Sun and the Moon meet Neptune and Chiron this weekend, they invite us to go easy on ourselves and treat ourselves with the same kindness and affection we would give the dearest people in our lives. (For some of us, it would be an improvement if to treat ourselves with the same kindness we give to acquaintances and strangers.) Our hearts and egos are in for healing, soothing and calming, as well as demonstrations of the interconnectedness we share with all live. These qualities are at the forefront of our experiences for the next four weeks, because they are fused into Saturday’s New Moon in Aquarius. The New Moon is in the sign of the individual, of the future, of our community of friends, and of the brotherhood of man, all of which are amplified by the two planets of love — Neptune close by and Venus still within orb of conjunction, just across the breach into Pisces. Aquarian genius, possibilities and intellectual appreciation of friends is blending with Neptune’s compassion and awareness of our interconnectivity and Chiron’s wound healing and mastery of the physical. The New Moon teems with magic and romance of the highest order. Commit yourself to the benefit of all concerned and let your guidance lead you through the fog. For more on the New Moon, read my report on the site.

Also this week, two planets change signs into territory that suits them well. On Wednesday, Mercury enters Aquarius. The messenger of the gods loves freedom of movement, and Aquarius allows him a detachment and speed that lets him soar. After his retrograde in nose-to-the-grindstone Capricorn focused us on practicalities and ramifications, our minds and communications are going to be flying high, playing “what if?” instead of following a prescribed path, darting in and out of the future and pulling answers out of the ether.

The next day, on Thursday, Venus enters Pisces, after meeting the sign’s ruler Neptune on Monday and Wednesday. Put the goddess of love and beauty in the sign of the highest order of love and inspiration , and what you get is just what you’d expect: softness, gentleness, kindness, compassion, empathy, sweetness and lyrical, soulful expressions of romance, poetry and art. No surprise, Venus is exalted in the sign of Pisces. From now through the first week of March, she will be reminding us that we can see God in the eyes of everyone we meet. She can affect another aspect of vision, too. As Saturn, Pluto and the daily headlines make us constantly aware of costs and scarcities, Venus in Pisces will urge us to keep spiritual and higher values in sight. Life isn’t just about the financial bottom line, she says. In fact, that’s really the least of what’s important.

Monday: Venus merges with Neptune and it’s love, love, love on internal jukeboxes all day long. Romance is in the air. Powerful desires are stirring, too, with the sparking that the Sun and Pluto are sending off. What plays out today doesn’t have to follow a chick flick script (though it certainly could). The love that’s all around simply envelope you in a the comfort of feeling blessed by and connected to a consciousness, intelligence and life greater than any one of us.

Tuesday: All the day’s aspects belong to the Moon. Her rounds of the day include a follow-up to yesterday’s group hug. An opportunity aspect to Venus during the overnight hours invites you to follow your heart, even if only in your dreams. (Think of it as a test drive for your waking life.) When the Moon merges with Pluto midday, step into your power, embrace your true desires and cut out the distractions.

Wednesday: Mercury moves into Aquarius; Venus meets Neptune by declination. As much as life has felt out-of-sync lately, today it doesn’t. There’s a sense of energies settling into where they belong, at least for the moment. Open your mind and your heart, and let your life flow.

Thursday: Venus enters Pisces and begins a month of self-study in compassion. A void Moon consumes the daylight hours (EST). The Moon sextiles Uranus at 7:40 AM, knocking plans and perspectives out of kilter, and goes void until 6:25 PM. The only aspect in the void is a growth contact between the Moon and Neptune, which heightens the free-floating atmosphere of the day. This is a day to break from your norm and take a different approach. Stand problems on their head; look at situations sideways; brainstorm wacky game plans; color so far outside the lines that they’re no longer part of the picture. Put writing material by your bed, too.

Friday: Six of the day’s eight aspects occur before sunrise in the Western Hemisphere. The Moon is processing compulsions, desires and cravings, power, responsibility, commitment, frustrations and more desires, then Mars and Pluto throw out an either-or choice: which agenda will you follow, your ego’s or your higher self’s? The last question will reverberate throughout the day and may return in the guise of what appears to be a power struggle with another person or some seemingly greater force. Remember the real underlying question. By evening, cooperation between Mercury and Saturn bring your thoughts and communications back on to solid, stable ground.

Saturday: Lots going on today. Mercury and Mars have a predawn showdown. You could be internally playing out a confrontation between your ideas and someone else’s agenda or, if you rise early enough, you could experience this face to face. By midmorning, growth aspects between the Sun and Uranus and between Mercury and Pluto extricate you from the pre-dawn squabble and lead you to a freer, more empowered and more evolved position, something that you would not have chosen or been capable of doing a few months back. The bulk of the day is happy, sociable, romantic and even ecstatic, thanks to lovely meetings by declination — the Sun and Neptune, the Moon and Venus and Jupiter. The New Moon in Aquarius occurs over coffee and dessert EST, and the evening ends with an embrace between the Moon and Neptune. There could not be a more picture-perfect script for Valentine’s romance. Spend time with someone(s) you love, whether you’re in a couple or not.

Sunday: Happy Valentine’s Day! And it can be, no matter how it’s let you down in the past. Over the course of the morning, Venus lands at crossroads with Saturn and then Mars. Commitment and responsibility are being called for in a relationship. Make choices that are consistent with your values; be led by compassion and not a passionate or angry impulse. The reward is an expansive afternoon filled with contacts, messages and generosity of spirit, followed by an evening of relaxation and gentle escapism when the Sun meets Neptune. Life may feel like a waking dream, and what’s wrong with that?
