Life has been a lot like an electrical storm in a fog lately. There’s an enveloping sense that profound matters are afoot. Much is happening that we can’t see or detect or identify, but the undercurrent is palpable all the same of rewiring just outside our peripheral vision. For a stretch of time everything feels a little cushioned and buffered, and then a bolt of energy will erupt that you did not see coming and that pierces a situation to the core. And maybe pierces you, too. Each impact is shocking but not numbing. Even as you’re smarting and reeling from it, you know that life is somehow changed forever, even if you don’t yet see how.
An epidemic of heart healing and liberating has been going on all month, with the hugest concentration in the days leading to the Valentine’s weekend New Moon in Aquarius. The healing and liberating process is still ongoing. We’re still in the midst of dissolutions and untanglings and rewirings, of newly defined borders and of rearranged relationship dynamics that give far more room to each individual’s intactness and well-being. Think about what is happening in your own life. Relationships are not falling apart willy-nilly; they’re being split and reassembled, even — and especially — the beneficial and valuable ones. Interdependencies are ripping apart. Boundaries are being redrawn. Perceptions are changing, of ourselves and of the people around us. The rosy idealizing that we’ve projected onto certain special people has been or is being stripped away, with the blessed result that they get to be human now. (Some of us are coming to realize that about ourselves, too.) Shackles are breaking open that we didn’t even suspect were binding our hearts. Allegiances, expectations, emotional pipelines, the bonds of shared memories and years, arrangements that take the place of or protect us from an equal mate — if they are blocking our hearts from the love we desire and need, they’re clearing out. (Neat and tidy advance work for the Venus/Mars square coming this spring.) As each bolt hits and shatters a lock, the impact pushes us firmly behind appropriate and intact boundaries and into our individual selves. The relationships are remaining; it’s the previous, limiting dynamic that’s going away. Once it disappears, it’s not coming back. The relationships will never be the same; they will never return to the previous weight and dimensions and confining undercurrents, but will enjoy more free-flowing, open-hearted love.
This process is the gift of the teamwork of Neptune (bringer of transcendence, divine guidance and the fog so many of us are experiencing), his recent companion Chiron (who both embodies our abiding wound and models embracing it and our physicality) and Uranus (awakener, enlightener and cosmic brick thrower). For years Neptune and Uranus have been in each other’s sign of rulership; for the nearly the past year, they have been traveling in a growth aspect. This month, each of them stands in the honor guard for the lunations. Neptune (and Chiron) were conjunct the New Moon in Aquarius on the 13th. The Sun is ruled by Neptune and is in the same sign as Uranus at the Virgo Full Moon at the end of this week. Neptune is clouding our ability to see ourselves, enshrouding our ego with otherworldly guidance and an inescapable, if not conscious connection to everyone and everything in creation. With Jupiter in Pisces conjunct the Sun and opposing the Moon, we may be confused, or foggy, or happy and optimistic without identifiable cause, or seeking indulgence no matter what, or all of the above. Venus and Uranus, moving into a conjunction of their own, are piercing the fog and zapping relationships, financial arrangements and perceptions of worth, so that we perceive and respond to them in different and innovative ways. Amidst these influences, the Virgo New Moon lights up the intactness and well-being we have (or haven’t) achieved in our hearts. For more on the Full Moon, read my report on the site.
This week also brings Mars back to the first degree of Leo and signals the winding down of his retrograde (which does not end until March 10). Since December 20 he has been retracing his steps since the middle of October, when he first entered Leo. The planet of action retreating through the sign of the child and self-expression sounded like a recipe for frustration, anger and snippiness when it was starting, but think about the benefits that it has brought to you. The past two months-plus have afforded the opportunity to pick up bits and pieces of your self-expression and passion that were scattered all over the time/space continuum (and not just from the middle of October on, though some of them were dropped them). As Mars eases into the earliest, rawest degree of Leo energy, look for openings to reclaim your voice, your joy and your heart. You can put them back to work for your own joy, excitement and creative self-expression as Mars turns direct and slowly moves forward next month.
Monday: A dust-up between Venus and Saturn makes this an edgy day. Sooner or later, every relationship shift hits walls, responsibilities, burdens and the issue of commitment, and sooner comes now. Your recent heart expansion may bump into pre-existing conditions that are left over from an old paradigm. You may hear “no,” or see fine print you didn’t catch before, or run into someone or something big that does not share your values. Before you start wrangling with the outer situations, follow the dissonance inward. Check in with your heart and its priorities. Then proceed.
Tuesday: Keep that list of priorities at the forefront of your thinking. Be ruthlessly honest with yourself and honor what you perceive, and you will successfully navigate the morning’s hard words and hard conversations (some of which you may well instigate). The opportunity is here to act from your personal truth, step into your power and move more fully into who you are (rather than who you may have been pretending to be to get by with others). The Moon goes void of course after trining Neptune at 12:30 PM EST; expect to float quietly for the afternoon, until she clears the void at 6:29 PM EST. Put your brain aside for the duration; let your guidance system lead you through the afternoon and see what inspiration and magic come to you.
Wednesday: Venus and Mars are not on the same page today and, since Mars is retrograde in Leo, the fallout could be a bit frustrated, impatient and melodramatic. Their nervousness colors interpersonal dealings and stirs a desire (and demand) for immediate gratification. Remember all the astrological lessons we’ve been going through for the past umpteen months to take the pressure off other people to meet your needs and expectations. Enjoy today’s excitement — this kind of electricity is good for flirting — but don’t fool yourself into thinking that you can make anyone do anything for you, or that anyone can give you something you don’t already have. And if all else fails, there’s always chocolate.
Thursday: The Sun and Jupiter meet by declination and beam down a cornucopia of warm-heartedness, self-satisfaction and a boundless sense of possibilities. It’s likely that few people feel like working hard, and fortunately the skies support kicking back. We have another free-form afternoon, with the Moon void of course from 12:48 to 8:09 PM EST. Her trine to Uranus before the void fills the second half of the day with contemplation of the lightning bolts that have been raining down, not to mention with urges to do something, anything to break from the norm. Late in the evening, the Moon meets retrograde Mars in the last zodiacal minutes before he returns to the beginning of Leo. Watch your heart and passions kick into gear and your creative voice roar.
Friday: There are no major aspects today. The Moon has agita from Venus and Uranus and hits crossroads with Pluto, the Sun and Jupiter. Emotions will be dancing this way and that, like a boxer bouncing from foot to foot (but not striking); expect to make adjustments and choices involving personal power and deep-rooted emotions, ego and life mission, and horizon expansion. Mercury and Uranus form a growth aspect late afternoon EST. Evolution is noticeable in your thought processes, frame of reference and methods of communication. You’re willing to hear what you could not have before, and that open-mindedness make it possible for you to receive a message with insight.
Saturday: The fog grows thick — while guidance and inspiration grow more abundant and accessible — as Neptune colors communications and emotions. Mercury conjoins Neptune in the morning; in the afternoon, the Moon opposes Neptune and Mercury and goes void of course from 3:15 PM to 7:53 PM EST. This is not a day for making a major investment or undertaking anything that requires relying on someone else’s representation, because surface appearances bear little relationship to the rest of the situation. The day does offer plenty of value, though. Great understanding, enlightenment and compassion are for the having. Heart healing and expanding communication can occur. With the Sun and Moon facing off by declination and energetically launching tomorrow’s Full Moon, it’s possible to get distance and perspective on emotional situations. Save errands and projects for more active times astrologically and use this day for the stillness that silences ego chatter and connects you to your soul and the great beyond. In the quiet, let your thoughts return to the middle of October, when Mars first entered Leo. Today he slides into the late minutes of the first degree of that sign. He will inch backwards through that degree for the next 10 or so days before turning direct. Do you have a different perspective now on the events from mid-October to mid-December? More to the point, how have your motivations and agenda changed?
Sunday: The Moon is Full in Virgo, spotlighting the intactness, boundaries and well-being of our hearts. In the hours following, the Sun joins Jupiter, while the Moon stares down Venus and Jupiter and meets Saturn by declination. Emotions and mental analyses alike are big, involving relationships, resources, values and self-worth. Commitment is an issue. If you give it to your heart as a starting point, everything else falls into place. For more on the Full Moon, read my report on the site.
