We’re still in review and preparation mode, with no big new elements entering the picture and requiring responses. This week returns us — and takes us deeper — into situations, issues and energies that have been with us for some time. Some of these situations we thought we’d already resolved. We’ll soon see how much more there is to be cleaned out and reorganized.
Two outer planets are ushering us into this review time: Pluto and Saturn, archetypes of primal power and authority. Since last November they’ve been locked in a battle that’s prompting restructuring, renegotiating and, in some cases, razing foundations, agreements and alliances of all kinds. The demands are about to get more intense and primal. Neither Saturn nor Pluto one is a speed demon under ordinary circumstances; now they’re both taking their time even more than normally. Pluto goes retrograde on Tuesday and will inch from 5 Capricorn to 2 between now and the middle of September. Saturn has been retrograde since mid-January. What brings him into astro-news is his backing out of Libra on Wednesday and returning to Virgo till late July. This move brings us into a refresher course in the lessons we learned during his two-year stay in Virgo, which took place from the end of August 2007 until the end of October 2009.
It’s an interesting and timely reminder, given the nature of the ongoing argument between Saturn and Pluto. Saturn in Virgo counseled minding our own business, not taking on other people’s problems, getting our own house in order first and safeguarding our own well-being before extending help to others. While the Saturn/Pluto square pushes us to reexamine reciprocity in exchanges, Saturn’s return to Virgo reacquaints us with the importance of intactness, boundaries and personal health. An honest and realistic assessment of our own needs and situation is essential for us to go further in a healthy and self-supporting way as we restructure and renegotiate our lives. It keeps us from operating from a loose, hazy or ill-defined tangle of wants. Knowing what we need gives us a clear bottom line to work from — and the bottom line is paramount not just for Saturn, but also for Pluto in Capricorn and Venus in her current (and first) home of Taurus. Start with your physical bottom line — your needs for nutrition, exercise, flexibility, mobility, health and rest. Empty out your daily bag of tricks and take a discerning look at what’s in there (habits, patterns, activities, physical conditions). Decide what to do with everything you find — give it up, pass it on, change it around, put it back in unchanged, repackage it or group it with something different.
When you’re informed about the state of your body and your routine, you can use it as a measuring point for other aspects of your life. When you come across an aspect that isn’t consistent with the bottom line of your well-being, what needs to give? Not your well-being, Saturn in Virgo cautions. This is contrary to long-standing tendencies that may as well have been bred in many of us. The last few years have brought many an opportunity to break us of damaging ourselves while helping — or hoping we’re helping — other people. This is not a selfish development, but one that is healthy and beneficial to everyone potentially concerned. You have to have your own vehicle in good working order before you effectively put it in someone else’s service. If you’re running on fumes or your battery’s dying or your tires are losing air, you’re not really of any use to someone else, especially if that person has to drop whatever you were dashing in to help with and come to your aid instead. This is becoming more obvious and more natural to us now. This week, as people make requests on your time and energy, notice how you are treating them as requests and not interpreting them as demands, as you might have earlier. Also notice now how different and healthy your automatic responses have become. And if you do find yourself starting to take on an obligation when you’re too tired or hungry or not prepared…catch yourself. Ask for a do-over. No apologies or explanations necessary. The only person you really have to answer to is you.
With Saturn returning to Virgo, situations and themes from late summer early fall 2009 may starting coming back around for another look. You’ve been through a lot since then, and so have the other people involved in the sagas that are returning. You’ve all become clearer about yourself and your life. You’ve all come to see certain relationships and allegiances in a different light, too. Don’t treat anyone as if he’s in the same position he was the last time this refrain played. Approach these recurrences with as few assumptions and projections as you can. Know yourself and your bottom line. Don’t budge from it. And make healthy choices.
Monday: We are being treated to a nice and easy start to the week, with very few planetary contacts. Only two of the aspects are major, and they’re nice and happy-making. Free-flowing energy between the Moon and each of Mercury and Venus facilitates a day of satisfying conversations, information-gathering and heart-warming socializing. Follow your heart. It will lead to experiences that make you appreciate being alive. Also, if you’re been hungering for a better understanding of an issue, ask for insight before you go to sleep tonight, and request that it come in imagery you can understand.
Tuesday: Talk, thoughts and information penetrate depths today. Mercury trines Pluto a good 19 hours before he stations retrograde this evening. Note what’s on your mind as you brush the sleep out of your eyes. The early morning machinations of your dreams and subconscious are neither random nor insignificant. You can get to the root of a lot today, especially if you are open to retooling your thinking.
Wednesday: Grounding and centering are the order of the day, and they come easily. If the weather cooperates, go outside, take your shoes off and walk barefoot in the grass. Follow the inclination to channel energy into organizing, arranging and attending to details. Eat something fresh and healthy. And monitor your outflow of time, money and other resources — not accusatorily or critically, merely mindfully. Saturn is beginning one last pass into Virgo, and you have the next twelve to sixteen weeks to address anything that is not entirely supportive of you.
Thursday: The day’s a mixed bag. The daylight hours are unpredictable and edgy, with encounters flirting with discord where you don’t intend or expect it. At times like this, it helps to keep in mind that you are not the only person experiencing this energy. Everyone is, so give people slack and, most of all, pause before letting angry or self-pitying sentiments fly from your lips or keyboard. Later in the day, reason for feeling very good about your life is within reach. Expand your concept of what’s possible in your world and watch its contours billow out in response.
Friday: Little activity in the skies translates into a leisurely wind-down to the work week. The only major aspect is a late afternoon Moon/Neptune conjunction. It’s a recipe for relaxation and escapism, and it kicks off a void that lasts till almost 10 PM EDT. Don’t waste time trying to pull last-minute tax information together this evening, because a foreign alphabet will have temporarily taken over over your records. Don’t plan anything to which you have an huge emotional attachment, either. Float from moment to moment and simply enjoy.
Saturday: The waking hours continue to be relatively quiet. The day is suited to easy-going sociability. The evening could encourage some locking of horns. Confrontations are not likely to come thinly veiled; the turf and the stakes ought to be very apparent — and quite deep-seated. If you come across a challenge to your power, or an invitation to a power struggle or argument, you’re hitting a choice point. What takes you there could involve someone stomping their feet like a toddler. You don’t have to coddle immature and inappropriate behavior, but sometimes the most effective way of getting it back in line is sneaking up on it or playing games with it. And sometimes power means having your finger on the trigger and choosing not to squeeze. One or both of these sentiments are likely to have meaning to you come Saturday night.
Sunday: Last night’s power play sets off a chain reaction that explodes in your dream world (or post-midnight interactions). A new and freeing perspective arrives on the dynamic in that relationship and sends it into an unforeseen and perhaps previously unforeseeable direction. If you’re jolted awake, jot down what’s running through your head; if your first awareness of waking comes in the morning, take notes then. This information will vibrate within you throughout the day, as the mood skitters from jovial to militant to peaceful to destabilizing to down. Ride the emotional waves and you won’t get towed under.
