Weekly Weather Report

by Stephanie Azaria

Significant Planetary Aspects for:

On your mark; get set; go! The major shift that we have been anticipating is beginning, finally, unmistakably and unavoidably. This week brings huge, dramatic, emotional crescendos, tidal waves, goodbyes, harvests and culminations that signal the definite end of an era in our lives. There’s little time for tears or reacting, much less processing, though. We’ll barely catch our breath, if that, before the starting bell goes off for the first round of the next big adventure.

There will be some overlap, of course. Some of this week’s endings may come back around for a little clean-up in the fall. Some of this week’s new stories will get boosts throughout the summer. Some may only spark and not fully take over until next year. The changing of the guard, however, is underway. More than that, actually: The changing of the game is underway. In the last couple of years, the rule book went out the window. Now the old game is going out as well. We’re moving to a new playing field, with different rules, different goals and different strategies.

You have been seeing the old game falling apart and leaving the areas of your life that have been shaken, rattled, challenged, tested, pressured and destabilized off and on since the fall of 2008. The force behind this process is the ongoing opposition between Saturn (structure/the old ways) and Uranus (change/the future). The planets are still hugging the degree of their most recent showdown at the end of April, and now Jupiter is in the act, too. Jupiter escalates anything he touches, easily and effortlessly. Last weekend he stared down Saturn exactly and made obligations, commitments and impediments loom large, like shadows on a wall. This week he is still separately ever so slightly from Saturn and closing in on Uranus, the unpredictable, chaotic and illuminating end of this equation. Jupiter and Uranus will not meet exactly until early next month, when both have bolted into Aries. Jupiter is nonetheless egging Uranus on, and Uranus is responding. We have been feeling this for the past couple of weeks; it should not take much thinking to pinpoint examples of what their teamwork has been whipping up in your life, or in the news. During the week Jupiter reaches the next to last degree of the zodiac, with Uranus nearly at the end of the last degree.

This contacts magnifies the developments that are cresting into endings now. Two cycles are simultaneously ending. The smaller one is Uranus’ transit through Pisces, which began in March 2003. This transit has invited us to get honest with ourselves about who we really are and bring that person to the surface, demonstrated time and again how each of us is linked to all of life, and increasingly required living from a base of compassion and spiritual connection. The larger cycle is Uranus’ orbit through the entire zodiac, which began about 84 years ago and encompasses all the technological innovation and social instability the world has experienced since the latter days of the Jazz Age.

For each of us individually, the smaller cycle will be easier to identify and process. We’re not the people we were seven years ago. We’re not entirely who we were as recently as last summer, for that matter. Everything that’s cresting and escalating and overflowing now is finishing up and washing away what no longer belongs to, fits or supports us — the us of time present.

We’re each being affected by the larger cycle ending as well, though the personal applicability may be a little harder to discern. This is what’s razing the social ground rules that we’ve been operating under for all of our lives (at least, those of us under 80), which were heavily and dramatically tweaked in the mid-60s. No one can say what’s coming next. Because the replacement rules haven’t been compiled yet, projecting into the future is futile. Staying in the moment — as Mercury’s retrograde in Taurus drove home — is key. So is staying in your heart and not letting your mind take over. Leading with your mind is part of the old game, the one that’s going away. If it’s in control, your mind will drive you into fear or anxiety or trying to plot the future. Your heart knows the the appropriate direction; your mind can occupy itself with looking for landmarks and signs and pointers as you travel.

The pivot point occurs on Thursday, under the Sagittarius Full Moon. The Moon is ruled by Jupiter, and so this Full Moon is vibrating with Jupiter’s expansion of the challenges and restructurings of the Saturn/Uranus opposition. As if to drive home the point that an era really is ending, this Full Moon also occurs on the absolute brink of change. At the moment that the Sun and the Moon are exactly opposite each other, Uranus is in the very last increment of the very last degree of the zodiac. This pushes the influence of this Full Moon even more over the top. The situations — and especially the emotions — that crest under this Full Moon mark the biggest, wildest, grandest culmination of the world view we have had to this point.

The Gemini/Sagittarius axis, where this Full Moon is occurring, deals with how we gather information and what our minds do with it. Sagittarius is the sign of the higher mind, and as such encompasses advanced education, life philosophy and belief systems (religious, political, general outlook as well as the laws that formalize them). The sign also involves thinking and ways of being that differ from what we were born into (in other words, thoughts that we grow into), and so includes faraway or foreign people, places and languages. As you’re riding the waves this week, look at what’s going on as, in some way, a reflection of your personal and/or our collective perspective — and especially of a life approach that is on the way out. There will also be some element of confusion, illusion or deception coming to the surface, because Neptune is contacting the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction as well as Saturn. This Full Moon will highlight issues of interconnectedness, so starkly that they can no longer escape notice. These issues will play out to either extreme — from absolute refusals to perceive a particular group as fellow man, for example (watch for new heights in racism), to completely submerging in someone else’s affairs. You may see how much you have taken on or been affected by situations without knowing it. You may see how little you really knew about a situation or, on the other hand, see how much more you really knew and understood. There will be overwhelming expressions of emotions, across the entire scale. Don’t hold back on the tears (not that you could, with the power of this influence); whether of gratitude, joy, sorrow or despair, they are cathartic and healing and part of the process. Don’t block anything; it’s coming up for a reason. Open your hands (no hanging on!), open your heart and let the waves take you where they will. For more on the Full Moon, read my report on the site.

The waves will very quickly deposit us onto the new shore. Three hours after the Full Moon, before the waning is even visible in the sky, Uranus moves into Aries. The starting gun goes off. Firecrackers and grenades explode. Life force erupts in every single one of us and propels us forward, without thinking (key words, those), impulsively, boldly and unhesitatingly onto our personal journeys. This Uranian influence is as individuating as the previous one was as unifying. Each of us is erupting into free agent status, breaking out of the pack and dashing ahead without concern for what other people are or are not doing, fiercely, animalistically motivated to pursue our own personal agenda. This is an self-starting, self-motivating, self-actualizing impulse, as powerful as the rush that pushes a sprout through the shell of a seed and into fertile ground and the air. Anger, aggression and militarism may be the fuel for some people, raw passion the fuel for others. This is where and when the volatility of the summer begins. This marks the avenue of change that’s coming in the final Saturn/Uranus opposition at the end of July. It’s the springboard for the liberation and, yes, disruption inherent in the cardinal t-square, and off-again, on-again cardinal cross, that’s taking shape over the summer. This is the starting point for our new world. It’s only Uranus’ first dip into Aries, of course. He’ll retreat to Pisces in mid-August and not return to the starting gate until March of next year. We’ll have time this fall to clean up remaining Piscean business. For now, though, the first round of the next phase is here.

The remaining cosmic brakes are lifted in quick succession. Mercury clears his retrograde shadow the next day, Friday, and we move beyond the communication and mobility issues that have occupied us since mid-April. That slow-and-steady influence gains a full-steam ahead quality then. The other slow-and-steady influence kicks into higher gear on Sunday, when Saturn ends his four-month retrograde and stations direct. We will barely be in the Uranus in Aries time before we can no longer rely on external impediments to slow us down and provide time for reflection and second thoughts. The Moon won’t be doing us that service this week, either. With so many planets in late degrees and Uranus parked at the very end of the zodiac, her void of course times continue to be short this week. It’s not till Saturday afternoon that we get one as long as two hours, and it will occasion huge sighs of relief all around. They are momentary. The red alert will still be in effect. And that alert is: We’ve arrived in the new world. It’s time to explore.

Monday: The ground is rumbling. People are on edge. Assertiveness easily crosses the line into aggression. There’s a more than vague sense that you should be doing something, but you can’t quite put your finger on what. No pushing; no shoving, please. Look at what’s surfacing. Allow emotions to come up and out. Stay in the moment, as hard as that may be; the time to act will come soon enough — very soon. Your heart knows what to do. Lead with it, not with the mind and definitely not with the will.

Tuesday: It’s an intense day of diving into the depths and dredging up a lot. The Moon kicks off the theme when she enters Scorpio in the overnight hours. Midmorning and midafternoon are bracketed by her contacts to Pluto by degree and declination. A door opens to an all-consuming experience, then we emerge with the distance to perceive what has occurred. Bottom lines are streamlined; outmoded attachments are severed; roots and hooks sink deeper and deeper into what we allow to remain. The process leads to a reexamination of the self and a no-going-back decision affecting the core of our beings. Think of the things you still say about yourself that are no longer true. If you choose to drop them today, the decision will stick. If you hit a more mundane choice point before turning in for the night, think of the options in terms of which one empowers you.

Wednesday: It’s another edgy day, which starts with a restless night. Uneasiness over impending, unknown change disrupts our sleep and dreams. Anxiousness, irritability and a general discomfort pervade the day. Remember what it was like on December 31, 1999, when people were apprehensive about what the date change was going to do to programmed technology and more? Today has a parallel state of not knowing and having to simply wait things out. No matter how odd you feel today, please keep sight of the fact that every single person on this planet is experiencing this, and many to most of them have no idea why. A lot of buttons will be pushed even for people who are resolute in remaining centered. Be kind. Be gentle. Especially to yourself.

Thursday: It’s show time. The air should feel lighter and more optimistic as the day begins, and it should be much easier to not only go along for the ride, but also actually enjoy it. The nervousness and rumblings of the past few days have made us capitulate somehow and shifted us into huge leaps of faith and openness to changing our inner and outer landscapes. Your reaction is different today, isn’t it, to all the dramas and issues and waves that are crashing around you? Plain and simple, we are all ready to move on. The Sagittarius Moon builds to fullness over the course of the day, peaking at 7:08 PM EDT; by 10 PM, Uranus moves into Aries. It may be hard to settle down and go to sleep. Pay attention to your dreams. They will hint at the shores on which you have landed. In fact, ask for guidance about your new direction (or any other question, for that matter). It will come through.

Friday: There are no major aspects today, but a lot of noticeable activity happens all the same. Overnight, Jupiter completes a growth aspect to Neptune, while Venus and Mars rough it up. Our hearts have blossomed into more compassion and a higher expression of love, and our desires and relationships down here on earth are being shaken up as a result. As you wake up, check in with your heart and sit with your feelings. To whom are your thoughts gravitating? That’s a clue, though exactly what to make of it remains to be seen. Late morning messages may or may not be reliable, on that question or other issues. Take in the information and don’t act on it yet. Early evening messages are destabilizing and point out walls, commitments, restrictions and maybe, just maybe, a structure or two that is fading into the past.

Saturday: The morning is, once again, edgy and restless, but then comes time to veg out. Finally! The afternoon brings the longest daytime void of the week, from 12:40 PM to 2:44PM EDT. Allow yourself to reflect, ponder, day dream, stare out the window or aimlessly watch movies. Maybe you’ll make sense of the morning’s cross-purposes conversations; maybe you won’t. Let the memories of those words — and everything else that’s transpired this week — waft through your mind without holding onto them. Just be. It will feel like a luxury, but will lead you to a needed grounding and centering. Don’t put the down time off. After the void, the atmosphere returns to restlessness, edginess and nervous, anxious chatter. Trace the discomfort back to yourself and follow it inward. By late evening, you’ll know what you need, what you want (crave!) and where you absolutely will not compromise.

Sunday: Avoid the temptations to scuffle that litter the morning; they’re a waste of energy. Nothing can be solved or resolved quickly today. Saturn is stationing direct in the early afternoon. The optimum point of focus is on personal well being. Watch out for chaotic communication late in the day. (This is not a time to split attention between your cell phone and the road, by the way.) Thoughts you’ve been tamping down may evade your usual filters and fly out of your mouth to everyone’s surprise. By the same token, watch for hear off-the-wall messages that open your eyes in ways that turn out to be very freeing.
