Weekly Weather Report

by Stephanie Azaria

Significant Planetary Aspects for:

The new phase is here. The flavor of the energy is high-octane, impetuous, impulsive, pedal-to-the-metal. Act first and ask questions (or apologize) later. The vibe has a youthful quality to it. We’re like kids so caught up in the excitement of an experience that we stay up way past the time that our bodies have been screaming for rest. Not that sleep has been particularly restorative lately. Everything’s running at a fevered pitch, including our psyches. Sleep is more like a series of sprints these days, rather than long, deep and uninterrupted slumber. The entire pace of life, in fact, is like a series of sprints, with energy crashes overtaking us with little warning and at weird times of day. Most of us have intellectually understood the importance of all the Saturn lessons of the past three years. Now we’re seeing experientially how critical they are.

Navigating this frenetic pulsing effectively requires proceeding from a base of order. Details are important. If they’re not in the right place or condition, they’re going to trip us up. The current forward, march! mode does not allow leeway for doubling back. If we don’t know where we left the car keys, or our favorite pair of pants, we’re going to fritter away time and energy digging around for them, and we’re probably going to be more than a bit frazzled by the time we dash out the door. When we do get going, our attention will not be calm and focused, but agitated and possibly distracted — hardly the most beneficial mindset for hitting a mark. If you’re about to leap across a ravine, you want your mind to be concentrating on the other side, not chewing on annoyances or frustrations you encountered on the way to the edge.

We’ll be leaping a lot this week. Also lunging, bolting, erupting, exploding and bursting with passion, excitement, enthusiasm and fury. The big themes of the week encourage movement, and how.

Tuesday culminates the first of three meetings between Jupiter and Uranus. The great escalator and the cosmic rebel have been traveling closely together for weeks, but are only now making their first conjunction. Their other meetings, in mid-September and at the beginning of January, will be back in the sign of Pisces. This is the only one in Aries, and that’s just as well. With these two in the very first degree of the zodiac, on the far-reaching platform of the world axis, this meeting has the subtlety of a Molotov cocktail. Uranus is detonating fiery, explosive, motivating and individuating changes in perspectives and structures, and Jupiter is pouring accelerant onto the flames. New life is bursting forth unexpectedly, dramatically and, in some cases, violently. Passions/anger/tempers/frustrations/burning forces that have been bubbling below the surface are erupting. Shells are breaking open and something raw, fresh and primal is emerging. Nerves are exposed. Wires are being stripped of protective coatings and are sparking. Calling the world volatile is an understatement. Last straws are breaking, and the snapping is causing some people to respond way out of proportion to the situation. Take up arms, even. How often in the last week have you seen someone blow up over an incident that was minor, on the surface? Or have you gone off yourself? Some people are walking powder kegs looking for a match. Their outbursts likely have less to do with you or the triggering event and everything to do with their own standing frustration and dissatisfaction with themselves. Still, if you’re near or in the line of fire of a human blow torch, you could take some damage in the blast. Unless you welcome a skirmish, or a deck-clearing, possibly relationship-ending blow-up, you may want to steer clear of known loose cannons this week.

Some of the firepower is positive, of course. In fact, a lot of it is. It’s making the air crackle with excitement and possibilities. Months ago, many of us felt stucker than stuck. Now we’re darting about, flexing new or dormant muscles and cavorting like kid goats. The more we move, the more energy we have. We’re getting somewhere fast, and having a lot more fun. When we do hit (or encounter) a meltdown, it’s cathartic and cleaning us out for something new. If you don’t know where exactly this new energy is erupting in your chart (it’s where 0 Aries falls), pay attention to where life is ramping up — and especially to how your attitudes are suddenly radically different, freer and allowing you far greater range of movement.

Mercury provides the other big theme of the week. He’s getting our minds, mouths, feet and wheels moving. All the excitement that’s erupting is teeming with information and messages. We’re in a new phase of how our minds gather, process and send out information, and in how we get around. This week, Mercury and Mars both clear the signs of their long retrogrades. Mars changes sign Monday and leaves Leo, at long last, for Virgo. Mercury leaves Taurus Thursday and flies into Gemini. Both planets embody masculine energy and are heading into Mercury-ruled territory, which puts Mars under Mercury’s domain.

Mars in Virgo motivates us to take care of our lingering Saturn work, which is, coming full circle, a crucial foundation piece for operating well in the current energies. He encourages attention to details, effort into healthy choices, good eating, taking care of our bodies, dealing with our environment and tending to (and cleaning up) our actual and metaphoric gardens. He’ll whip up mental activity, too, by giving incentive to think, talk and analyze and to use Virgo’s powers of discernment to perfect and refine concepts. He’s also full steam ahead in this sign, unlike his prolonged visit and lengthy retrograde in Leo. He’ll plow through Virgo between now and the end of July.

Mercury makes his move into his other home of Gemini on Thursday, and everyone will breathe easily. Mercury’s leaving earth-bound Taurus for his favorite place, the air, where he can move and dart and fly freely and as quickly as he likes, which is very quickly indeed. We’ll have the energy, motivation and ability to chase after ideas and to talk, a lot, about all the Jupiter/Uranus activity. His mobility may have the effect, in fact, of fanning flames being ignited by Jupiter and Uranus. It will be easy to leap to conclusions and react on the basis of them. Mars in Virgo advises doing your homework first.

Mercury also rules Saturday’s New Moon in Gemini, which launches a new phase in how we think, communicate and get around. By this time Mercury’s talking to just about every body in the sky and opening new energy in all directions. His sextile to Jupiter/Uranus offers information and invitations for short trips, but you have to pick up the phone to accept; nothing’s dropping into your lap. Mercury’s trine to Saturn orients our minds naturally to making healthy choices, tending to our own business and leaving other people to take care of their own. The messenger is making a square to Mars, on one end, and Neptune conjunct Chiron on the other. The configuration puts Mercury in the middle of a t-square, with compassion, healing and healthy action all demanding that we speak up. Mercury’s also in an adjustment aspect to Pluto and a growth aspect to Venus. Attitudes about desires and power are in for a shift (and expression), and we express our hearts in a way that reflects our current evolution. For more on the New Moon, read my report on the site this weekend.

Monday: Mars moves into Virgo while many of us are sleeping. His first order of business is hitting choicepoints, first with Jupiter and then with Uranus. When you recognize the first one, check your motivation. Is it anger or self-preservation? Domination or service? Enthusiasm or picking nits to death? Which way expands the positive, instead of blowing something out of proportion? A healthy, grounded decision at this point will make the second one more beneficial. We’re likely to blaze through that one without recognizing it, except in hindsight. Anger, frustration or resentment are going to steer you in one direction. Excitement and openness to different, innovative and self-actualizing approaches steer you in another. Come evening, think back on the day from this perspective and the moments of choice should stand out.

Tuesday: Hot, explosive energy hits critical mass today. Hang back and observe in the morning, as much as you can. Now that Uranus has cleared the last degree of Pisces, the voids are lasting slightly longer; this morning’s goes on for two and a half hours, after the Moon sextiles Neptune shortly after 9 AM. The afternoon brings practical and grounding messages and information, which may well make some sense out of the Jupiter/Uranus firepower and will definitely calm us all down.

Wednesday: Yesterday’s clear and sensible communication gives way to snarls today. Information may be cloudy or smack of misdirection and lies. Facts are hard to put your hands on. Undercurrents abound of power plays and backroom machinations. Take everything under advisement.

Thursday: Sighs of relief all around as Mercury moves into his first home of Gemini and reaches his hand out to Uranus and Jupiter. We’re done with yesterday’s vagueness (and sense that someone’s hiding something). Today is a riot of news flashes, insights, unexpected shifts in thinking and spur of the moment trips. Much of it is likely to be feel-good and inspire reaching out to friends, with the Sun meeting Venus by declination. Some of it might pierce and make sense of yesterday’s fog. Ponder the clues when the afternoon brings another longish void, from 3:51 PM to 6:12PM EDT.

Friday: The up-down communication vibe returns to a less comfortable place as Mercury squares Mars. Words fly as these two butt heads. Talk is energizing, too, angry talk most of all. It’s time to get a move on. Don’t merely chew on what you hear. Do something about it.

Saturday: The New Moon in Gemini launches a highly active day. The Moon’s ruler Mercury is talking to just about every planet in the sky (see discussion above), and we’ll be hearing and learning much. Don’t be surprised if you wake up with your mind racing and halfway into an important conversation (in your head). Continuing it face to face will go easily, as the day brings opportunities to make and ground meaningful connections. Watch for the conversations that feel deep and weighty or use something tempting as a hook. Mercury is hitting a choicepoint with Pluto, and words will stick and not be taken back. A mid-evening void brings a rare and perfect Saturday night atmosphere. The Moon trines Neptune and goes void from 7:36 PM to 9:51PM. The window is wide open for romance, music, fantasy, escapism and, ah, yes, drinking. Have fun; enjoy; but watch out if you’re behind the wheel.

Sunday: Venus hits a choicepoint with Neptune. Just what happened last night, anyway? Or is going on now? It is real or illusion? Desire or love? Are you being lied to or basking in love on all levels? Your mind is no way equipped to decide these questions. Leave them to your heart.
