Significant Planetary Aspects for:

Intensity is subsiding for the moment. Our ongoing processing of change is moving from the emotional and highly personal realm into the mental. Mercury, the planet of communication, has many meetings on the agenda this week, including appointments with both ends of the opposition that has been rocking our complacency. Information will be flying to and out of us about the new directions our lives are taking.

Mercury’s first appointment is with retrograde Venus in Aries on Monday. The pair is making a growth aspect, and the information that their meeting generates will underscore how far we have come. The maturing state of our values and self-worth will lock into focus in some way. The instrument may be someone from the past surfacing in person or in conversation, or an old financial matter may pop back up. The fact that a person or matter reappears doesn’t mean he or it has a place in your future. The importance of the reappearance may be solely for you to compare now and then. The extent to which you let this person or matter back in depends on how closely it aligns with your current values and self-worth. If you don’t encounter a visitor from the past, look to your own thoughts and language choices for evidence of your growth.

On Wednesday, Mercury makes the same type of aspect to Jupiter just before a major confrontation with Saturn. Mercury has crossed a lot of planets since he and Jupiter were conjunct in Aquarius in the middle of January, and the cosmic messenger has much to report. Since Jupiter thinks more is better, he wants Mercury to tell it all and not leave anything out. Jaws will be wagging; thumbs will be texting; call-waiting beeps will be interrupting phone conversations. Be on the lookout for messages that elaborate on matters from mid-January. It will be easy to put your vision for your future into words, so spread it around.

The exuberance and optimism of Jupiter is still fresh when Mercury heads into a double-barreled showdown with Saturn, by declination and by zodiacal degree. Processing the shakedown of the Saturn/Uranus opposition moves to the mental level here. We now have sufficient distance from the internal and external upheavals this opposition has been triggering to gain some mental clarity about them and begin verbalizing our responses. Mercury opposing Saturn will provide a speaker’s platform for concepts that belong to the old order. Your new plans may meet with a resounding “no” or a checklist of their every flaw. Either response could just as easily bubble up from inside you as it could appear in the words of another person (who is likely to be someone you consider to be older, wiser or more authoritative). Neither response has to be a door slamming shut; take it as testing of the mental structure you are putting in place and perhaps rethink some of the details. This opposition is an invitation to speak with authority and commitment to your new vision. Vague plans or wishful thinking don’t cut it. It’s time for concrete game plans. They don’t have to be perfect (even though Saturn in Virgo would like them that way), nor do they have to be set in stone. Starting to think in specifics and practicalities is what’s important.

Besides, new information is coming over the weekend, when Mercury meets Uranus the awakener on Sunday. Unexpected messages and insights will flood the weekend, and you’ll be thinking and talking nonstop about the restructuring that’s going on within and without. When Uranus directs his lightning at the planet of communication and transportation, puzzle pieces turn up in unlikely places,. Words fly out of your mouth that surprise even you. Keep plans loose, because temptation will abound to change your schedule spontaneously, particularly once you’re out and about. You could leave the house intending only to run to the store and embark on a spur of the moment adventure. Cobwebs are shaking loose, clearing the residue of the old from our thinking. If you’re puzzling over something, this energy can actively assist your process. Ask to be shown another way to view a situation and rest assured a new perspective will be delivered to you.

Don’t pressure yourself to act on the information you receive this week. You’ve got time to mull it over and assimilate. The motivation to act on it will come next month when Mars, the planet that rules our drive, follows Mercury’s footsteps and makes his own contacts to Saturn and Uranus.

While Mercury is crossing from Saturn to Uranus, the Sun completes his annual tour of the zodiac and leaves Pisces for Aries, on Friday. The transition is akin to bursting forth from the womb of the collective into the air and light of individuation. Inner sparks reignite and build strength now; our own seeds start to shoot up and become visible in the mundane world. The Sun’s entry into Aries marks the vernal equinox and first day of spring. This year, the season will have an inordinate power and focus, because early in the morning the day before spring begins, the ruler of Aries, Mars, makes an opportunity aspect to Pluto. Resources are finite, and so is our personal energy. This contact sharpens and refines ambitions and streamlines how we use our energy. Notice your state of mind when you start the day Thursday. We’re going into this new zodiacal year with a new and strong sense of what matters most, individually and collectively. It is less and less appealing to fritter away attention on activities if they do not further or involve something that we have identified as a priority.

This spring, we will be extremely selective about the seedlings and projects that will receive our attention. On some level, we will have already sorted the seedlings into categories: the ones that we will nurture and care for with all our force, and the ones that we will let fend for themselves. Yes, they may die, but if they’re not close to our heart, it’s not our responsibility to keep them going. Our metaphoric gardens may have fewer plants than in previous years, but each plant will receive a larger share of nutrients and attention than it would have before. Think of the harvest that could yield – and likely will.
