Ever hear of Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em Robots? It’s a mechanical boxing game with two plastic robots walloping on each other and attempting to take the other down. Neither one can really knock out the other though; it’s just a game with a lot of back and forth movement. That image is a good starting place for what’s going on in the skies this week. Two titans are locked in a showdown that each is going to survive. They’ve been whaling on each other for a long, long time, though, and after their battle reaches its final climax, their environment will never been the same again. It’ll be as if the plastic robots have broken loose and pulverized their boxing ring, each with the help of an extra pair of hands.
We’re at the grand finale in the personal and societal revolution we’ve been undergoing since late fall 2008, which has been the modern-day replay of the turmoil of the mid-60s. Each and all of us have been experiencing a complete restructuring in the status quo, which first threw the rule book out the window and then tossed us into a new game and an unfamiliar playing field, both of which we’re still feeling our way around. The planetary equivalents of the robots slugging it out are Saturn, the planet of structure, rules and the old order, and Uranus, the planet of awakening, disruption and the way of the future. They’ve moved into a new boxing ring for the endgame, which is playing out in the arena of relationships.
Each slugger has a helper for this final round, too, which is escalating into one last hurrah, like a fireworks display that ends with everything left on the platform going off at once. Jupiter is fanning Uranus’ volatility, unpredictability and destructiveness, underscoring the change he is unleashing with an emphatic, “And I really mean it!” Mars is marching up to Saturn’s defense (he’ll arrive on Saturday, a good six days after the last opposition is exact), injecting a better-late-than-never combativeness into the dynamic. And in between, overseeing it all and making sure no one gets out untouched is Pluto, guardian of the raw, primal forces that live below the surface of our beings and the planet. The anarchist will go up against the pugilist, with the lord of the underworld acting as middleman, which right there gives you one huge, helpful forearming for the week. While change and liberation are going to win, structure’s warrior champion is not going down without a fight. No puppies and kittens for now, alas; that’s for sure. Still, the week doesn’t have to be a metaphoric blood bath, or awful, or even arduous. We are not doomed to anger or violence or ugly fighting. It will, though, be dynamic and confrontational, even if those adjectives apply more to each of us as individuals than to our external circumstances…which they likely will.
What can you expect in your own life? More of what you’ve been experiencing, for starters. The final round is already well underway, so look for clues in the relationship twists and turns of the last few weeks. You’ve been chipping away at a mold, and now you will crack out of it entirely. Impulses are going to erupt from within and propel you forward, even if an external circumstance looks to be the trigger, and probably without a lot of thought. It will be as if a clock is going off, or a code is kicking in, and no one is exempt. No one. Don’t invest much energy in how other people are experiencing this. Pay attention to yourself and your own process, and direct your attention to that instead of taking personally anything that anyone else says or does. This is not kid glove territory. No one’s going to be playing nice or making nice. Social graces are going to be in short supply, even for Libras, who will have Saturn and Mars double-teaming them and taunting them to confront and vent their bottled-up anger. Anger, along with frustration, irritation and impatience, will be the fuel that shoots us out of our molds.
People will be brusk, impulsive, excited, explosive, self-oriented, forceful and motivated. You will likely cycle through those emotions and qualities yourself. Oh, goodie, you’re thinking, but don’t dread the week. Look at it this way: Expressing this firepower will be cathartic. It will move you off the fence and onto the side that’s more appropriate for you. You can have fun with it, if you maintain a light-hearted attitude. Blasting people with a flare gun is not inevitable or required. In fact, if you stay aware of how combustible everything is, you will understand that one simple match may be all you need. And you will navigate it all with much less drama, and much less wear and tear on your heart, nervous system and adrenals, if as much as you can, you are an observer in your own life.
Monday: No easing into this week. We start with one of the most active days in a long time. (Friday’s another.) The hubbub begins in the overnight hours, which make us aware of our new and improved agendas and ambitions, confront us with illusions, delusions and fantastical thinking, and impel us into a choice in how we embrace and express our power. We’ll have to take action on the second part (illusions, delusions and fantasy, or proceeding from compassion and higher guidance) before the day is done. Before then, though, the downloads send us into the day with a great sense of anything being possible. And anything is. This is the last round of the Saturn/Uranus opposition. As the final showdown locks in between order and chaos, structure and demolition, social convention and radical individuality, use enlightened self-interest as your navigational tool. Hang on to it. The immediate aftermath of this aspect is uncomfortable, disconcerting and restless. If you’re looking to rest, relax and breathe easily, you will not find it out in the world tonight. Your mind may see and appreciate the value of what is going down, but your heart needs time to process and assimilate. Your own corner is your safest harbor. Seek solace or comfort from another, and you’re not likely to get a cozy, welcoming, reassuring reception. You will be interrupting that person’s own search for calm.
Tuesday: Mercury moves into Virgo, one of his two homes. His natural comfort there encourages clear reasoning and communicating, which will be a blessing amid the rest of the tumult in the skies and here below. Thought, talk and simply getting around will all flow more smoothly and matter-of-factly now, at least until he goes retrograde in the middle of August. (He enters the retrograde shadow on August 1.) His first act is making an inconjunct to Uranus, the awakener. This aspect forces a choice between this way or that way, with no middle ground. The need for this choice could come through a message or piece of information that puts a new spin on the relationship restructuring you’re undergoing, flips you into a different perspective on your ongoing saga since November 2008, or unleashes an out-of-the-blue statement from you that sends you down one path and closes off the other.
Wednesday: Today’s mental activity is as grounding and solidifying as yesterday’s was electric. You’re settling into yesterday’s choice, even if you can not yet consciously articulate what it was. Your commitment to yourself is evolving; you’re thinking and communicating more responsibly, and so are the important people in your life — again, a blessing amid the rest of the tumult in the skies and here below.
Thursday: Pay attention to urges, motivations, agendas and actions today. Some of them may be in your face, but there’s a possible benefit to that. You could get some needed distance on your own and a clearer understanding of your own behavior and impulses of late. You could also get a bird’s eye view of any current situation and see all the participants (as well as the game itself) in a very different light. Take that distance and perspective along when Mars moves into Libra this evening. He’s going to stir up partnership issues, perhaps summon an important man or two and prepare for another cozy rendezvous with Venus (in this her second home, in August). The place could get a little messy before she arrives. Pace yourself. You don’t have to resolve everything now.
Friday: Today may be as dramatic as Monday. Its aspect line-up is certainly long and powerful. Messages are deep and from the deep. Don’t be surprised if a conversation continues (or is clarified) that took place around the Capricorn lunar eclipse on June 26. Communication is streamlined, focused and plunging into weighty, important, possibly life-changing matters. There’s also an element of choice in the direction thoughts and conversations take: will it be optimistic and life-affirming, or simply a lot of hot air? And there’s a powderkeg quality to the day as well. Tempers, passions and will-power could all get set off on a moment’s notice. Objects could break. Accidents may happen. Act deliberately and take your time. You’ll be chomping at the bit for change, for excitement and just maybe for a dust-up yourself. Don’t be surprised if you’re tempted to go after someone bigger than you — a bully, an authority figure, your own personal Goliath. Physical activity would channel those urges into controlled and manageable outbursts.
Saturday: This is another day for paying attention to urges, motivations, agendas and actions. A Mars/Saturn conjunction will bring them into focus for you, but how this happens could take a number of forms. You may be hurtling along and slam to a stop as someone applies a brake, hard. You may be hurtling along and find yourself shifting gears and settling into the course for the long haul. You may battle authority, a no or an obstacle or simply vent a motherlode of anger, frustration or irritation at one or all of those. (If you are a parent or an authority figure or the person who’s been the naysayer, any of this may come at you.) A way to harness your drive and pair it with commitment may open up. Energy and effort may naturally flow into negotiating and reaching an agreement. Notice what topics come up in conversation, who asks for what, and what relationships take center stage. Something is settling down and locking in — though it’s likely to get blown up like a balloon before the day is over, and how.
Sunday: Repercussions and ramifications are surfacing and sinking in. All of our relationships are in flux, because all of the ground rules and agreements are being restructured and rewritten. No one is quite sure what to do or say or how to proceed exactly across this new terrain. Everything is playing catch-up today, even solid and fulfilling alliances. Tread lightly. Reach out gently.
