Kathy has two relationship astrology talks coming up: an intro teletalk at 8 PM EDT Thursday, Aug. 12 for TheConsciousLivingGuide.com and a discussion of Venus, Mars, love and sex at 7:30 PM EDT Friday, August 20 at The Goddess in Eden in Montclair, NJ. Email her for details.
When one aspect of a system changes permanently, all the other aspects of the system inevitably change, too. The fact that so many aspects have been changing nearly simultaneously is part of what’s been so dramatic about this summer. No part of our lives is going untouched, internally or externally. This week, the epidemic of primal and radical change carries over into matters that are near and dear to our hearts. Anything and everything that we value is up for clarifying, streamlining and purifying.
Relationships are a big part of the process, of course, and not merely romantic or familial. Interactions of all types are under the microscope and the knife, even ones that we don’t consider major or normally give much mind. Our attitude toward them is really what’s morphing, and every external relationship development is a reflection of that, no matter how much weight or importance we give to any particular bond.
Much more is in play, though — our cash in the bank, the skills we posses to earn that, the possessions we acquire with it and our view of what they and ourselves are worth. We are going through another round of getting down to our personal bottom line. That means becoming conscious of what is most important to us (not necessarily a comfortable process) and downgrading, shelving, cutting out, leaving or losing anything that is not. This focus is not intellectual, or logical, or traditionally security-based (even though it may masquerade as such). We are figuring out once again what matters to our hearts. This is hardly a new development. We’ve been going through rounds of this process over the past 18 months at least. Each round takes us deeper into our hearts, removes more and more deadwood and detritus to light, hauls away more garbage and emboldens us to admit and go for what we really want.
This current round has two very distinctive characteristics. First, it coincides with a dawning desire to embrace our heart’s desires and enjoy life. This will not erupt in a sudden explosion, as have so many impulses this summer, but will roll out and gain strength over the next few weeks, like a cartoon snowball rolling down a hill or, more accurately, a slow-starting fire that growing bigger, brighter and hotter. Second, it is groundwork for a major push forward in ambition and drive. We’re not merely getting clearer about what we want to have and experience, we are also poised to launch an enthusiastic campaign for it. Our minds and willpower are preparing to get on board with our hearts, once again, as they did twice last year. Their collaboration will ramp up noticeably as the weekend approaches, in a preview of what’s coming the following weekend.
Here are the technicalities of what’s going on: The week starts with Venus completing her contacts with Jupiter and Pluto in the restructuring-demanding t-square that’s ongoing in the early degrees of Aries, Libra and Capricorn. Sandwiched between those contacts is the New Moon in Leo. Venus rules love, money, possessions, self-worth, beauty, art, luxury, the way we treat other people and how we’d like others to treat us — all the goodies in life that stir our hearts and desires. She’s facing off with bigger-is-better Jupiter, which increases a sense of entitlement to indulge and inflates desires as well as the urge to instant gratification. Keep in mind that as these two face off, Venus has champion Mars and tough-love advocate Saturn near her side, while Jupiter is running with Uranus, who upends on the spur of the moment. Four of them are playing with a big book of matches and aren’t closing the cover before striking. One of them is standing ready to show and bind them to the consequences of their actions, even though he has an extinguisher that he could douse to the fire. Desires are going to ignite. We are going to want what we want enormously, more than ever, in more grand form than ever, and we’re willing to risk being tied to it for a long time.
This pumped-up longing and ambition to get it no matter what sends us straight into the Leo New Moon, which seconds the cosmic imperative to give our hearts what they want. It invites us to let our most expressive selves come out and play, to share our unique light and gifts with the world and to bask in childlike joy at being alive. More on the New Moon is in my report on the site. As this light begins to dawn, everything that Venus and Jupiter have just puffed up gets run by Pluto, lord of the riches and monsters that lurk beneath the surface. He’s applying a scalpel, sending out a remodeling crew, firing up a jackhammer or launching some other process that will yield permanent change.
The rest of the week, we go from being mildly unnerved by this process to staking out a place of comfort. Information, insights and messages become easier to read by midweek. Venus and Mars come together by declination on Thursday, a precursor of their late-night date on August 20 in Libra, the sign of relationships. Trappings that no longer fit or feel right fly off more easily as we roll toward the weekend. By the time Venus and Mars meet next week, our hearts, desires and goals will be sufficiently burnished, simplified and reclaimed — and Mars will leave with marching orders that we very much want him to fulfill.
One other factor encourages calm the weekend arrives. On Friday, Uranus leaves the first degree of Aries, where he has been inciting much since late May, and returns for a clean-up tour of the last degrees of Pisces. He’ll only go as far back as 26 Pisces, across turf he’s travelled since mid-March, turn around in the first week of December and leave Pisces for good (or, at least, the rest of most of our lifetimes) next March. Once he vacates Aries, the heat and combustibility we’ve been feeling will subside noticeably. We’ll get to revisit the jailbreaks, twists and turns that redirected our paths from mid-March through last May. We’re also finishing up a personal and collective chapter that began in March 2003. We’ll have a last (not lost) opportunity to replace sacrifice and pity with enlightened service and compassion, and redefine boundaries while honoring the interconnectedness of all life.
Monday: Venus and the Sun make less than friendly contacts to Saturn, Venus argues with Jupiter and Pluto, and the Moon is New in Leo. Checking your grounding periodically is advisable. Instead of diving into desires as they mushroom, stand back and just note them. They’re going to be refined by day’s end, anyway, and what looks enticing-to-irresistible at the outset might prove difficult to get out of. Very difficult.
Tuesday: With the Moon in Leo most of the day, it’ll feel like we should be having fun. If only there weren’t mild, disconcerting and inescapable undercurrents. The Sun is making uncomfortable links to Jupiter and Pluto, stirring an edginess that is downright cellular. Use the late-afternoon/early-evening void (3:11 PM – 7:12 PM EDT) to explore whatever is bubbling up. Since the Moon begins the void opposing Neptune, higher guidance is in the air, if you’re open to it. Instead of berating yourself or another person because of how out-of-sorts you feel, float in the feeling for a bit…then play with it. Make a story up about it…paint a picture…sing songs that express it…ask the feeling what it means for you. Once the Moon enters Virgo, you’ll be on a mission.
Wednesday: All the day’s aspects belong to the Moon, who meets with her ruler du jour Mercury before going void midway into the evening. That conjunction is the only major aspect of the day, too. Most of the rest are by declination rather than degree. Conduct an experiment and note how you experience that. Are you thinking about emotions (identifying and analyzing) more than feeling them? It could lend more of an observer role to your day — making you intellectually aware that certain people are important to you, rather than feeling your heart swell, and noticing irritations rather than succumbing to them. The evening’s void will consume most of tomorrow (unless Chiron is included in the mix, in which case it will be extremely short Thursday evening).
Thursday: Despite what the calendar says, it feels like Friday, or even Saturday night, all day long. One reason is the Moon being void until 6:44 PM EDT, which crowds out incentive to buckle down and work. Another reason is the activity involving Venus and Mars during the void. Mercury stares them down by declination, bringing messages and insights about relationships, desires and motivations. The lovers join by declination, too, in a preview of their meeting by degree at the end of next week. (It’s a trial run, remember; this is happening within the void, so it’s more on an energetic level than a practical, worldly one.) Hearts and minds are settling into a compatible rhythm, and the same is likely with each of us and at least one important person. After the cosmic lovers meet, each of them links up with the Moon by declination, which bodes well for the day’s developments being personally satisfying. As soon as the Moon clears the void, she opposes Uranus and shakes things up. Keep your knees loose and your mind and heart open, and go with the unexpected.
Friday: The Moon joins Venus while most of us are sleeping, then meets Mars as the morning kicks into gear. Your mood on waking may be so gently and happily satisfied that it fails to grab your attention. Make a point to notice. This is how life should feel. Share the good vibes (it won’t be a stretch) and use them as fuel for pursuing a heart-based agenda this morning. Notice how differently tasks go when you want to do them, or see how they further a goal that has meaning to you, or you involve people you enjoy in them, or you figure out a way simply to have fun and amuse yourself while doing them. Watch for the shift in the air when Uranus re-enters Pisces shortly before midnight EDT.
Saturday: Until mid-evening EDT, the Moon is in relationship-focused Libra, where Venus and Mars will meet next Friday. The day has few aspects, which hold the potential for yesterday’s good vibes continuing at a slightly muffled level. Other people may be erratic or unpredictable, but you can choose a freer and more light-hearted path through the daylight. Enjoy the late afternoon void (4:07 PM – 8:27 PM EDT). With the Moon gliding off from Neptune, it’s an especially dreamy time, ripe for relaxation, inspiration and pleasant escape.
Sunday: The invitation to take it easy continues. The only major aspect of the day is a Moon/Pluto sextile during dreamtime, which aids unconscious processing, assimilating and capitalizing on all the emotional shifts we’ve undergone this week. Watch for implementing this afternoon of new attitudes, approaches and situations.
