This week we explore inter-related issues of communication, obligations and limits, and deep, deep desires. During the first half of the week, the masculine side of our nature fuses with our mind and communications in two meetings between the Sun and Mercury, a conjunction late Monday night and meeting by declination mid-evening on Wednesday. The Sun and Mercury are completing the collaboration they were ramping up during last week’s New Moon. Ideas sprang up then of what you want to pursue this spring; now it’s time to spread the word passionately as well as go after information you need.
Egos, minds and words are in alignment; the messages erupting out of the Sun/Mercury meetings convey the truth and passion of their speaker, undampened by any of the usual brakes, filters or premeditation. Words will fly out almost as soon as they are thought, with the excitement of colts breaking out of a corral. If you have been preparing yourself for an important conversation, particularly regarding a project you’re pursuing, you may launch into it whether you wake up intending to do that.
Although the Sun and Mercury’s placement in Aries lends impulsiveness, assertiveness and directness to communications, the sign’s typical forcefulness is softened by its ruler Mars being in Pisces, which defangs aggression and underlays our communications with compassion, empathy and the awareness that we are all in this together.
The excitement, vitality and forward lunge that we get from the Sun/Mercury meetings are fine-tuned all week as Sun and Mercury run our ideas by Neptune (inspiration), Saturn (structure and limitations) and Mars (drive and ambition), and Mercury flashes them at Uranus (the cosmic awakener, on Monday) and hands them to Venus (the goddess of love and money, on Saturday). Ideas will leap from exuberance to confusion to alternate viewpoints, from testing and grounding to a cost-benefit analysis, and finally to an adjustment. It’s quite the dynamic process; watch how your plans grow and evolve from it.
We’re still customizing our personal experience of the restructuring being occasioned by the ongoing Saturn/Uranus opposition, and this week we concentrate on the Saturn end of this aspect. We are examining the structures that are cracking in our lives (relationships, jobs, responsibilities, thought patterns), the new ones we are building, the intactness of our boundaries and the quality of care and attention we are giving to our own well-being.
When the Moon head butts Saturn Tuesday, we hit a wall or falter under the weight of a responsibility and respond not by giving up or in, but by doing whatever is necessary to take care of ourselves. Mars’ showdown with him by declination on Wednesday has the potential for frustration and stalemates. No matter what presents itself, you’re not being blocked for good. Remember the grade school crossing guard advice to stop, look and look again. What do you see when you look now? How does this pause benefit you? Thursday, Mercury makes an inconjunct to Saturn and we come to a crossroads with the ideas and information that we have been bursting with since Monday. One direction may require more expertise or greater personal command of the information; one direction may involve the dictates of an external authority? What is the healthy choice, for you?
Friday and Saturday, the Moon slips in nods to the Uranian end of the opposition, both times while many of us are sleeping. She trines Uranus a couple of hours before dawn Friday EDT and sets off a download of insights and brilliant new ideas. There are options in the restructuring we’re undergoing; some unusual ones occur to you now. Our psyches will not let us linger overly long in these realizations, though. Pre-dawn on Saturday she and Uranus mix it up and stir discomfort while urging us to get up and get going on our personal tear-downs. Both mornings are opportune times to write down what is on your mind when you wake up.
Saturday, the major action day of the week, Mercury, Venus and Saturn meet each other by declination and the reality sinks in of the changes we have been undergoing, what we want to do about them, and who we want with us while we do. Our thought processes, which have been rushing ahead all week, approach and unite with our Saturn in Virgo issues. How intact are our mental boundaries? Are our thoughts our own or what someone else would impose on us? No vague or unfocused thinking now; it’s time for the concrete and practical. We gain understanding of the restructuring that is going on and take responsibility for our personal role in it (or face consequences if we do not). Significant grounding and intellectual commitment are possible, which will stabilize our thinking about our new projects and outfit it for a marathon, rather than only a sprint. Mercury passes these realizations on to Venus, who infuses our thoughts and communications with an awareness of what we truly, deeply value. Watch for important and serious talk with and about people who mean most to you – and who are signing on for this next leg of the journey. Venus then brings this package to Saturn, and the two of them inspire you to make serious commitments: to your own self-worth, to what you value most, to the key people you want with you.
Making the commitment is all you have to do just now. In fact, anything more you attempt is likely to get you nowhere productive, much less pleasant. Mars opposes Saturn mid-evening Saturday EDT and forceful efforts will hit a brick wall. This may happen even if you think you’re going with the flow. If you feel stymied, step back. Saturn’s giving a pop quiz on action by inaction, and the correct answer is not trying harder. We are moving from making our goals happen into a mode of allowing and receiving, and Saturday evening’s events are part of that process. Making peace with this is possible when the Sun completes this round of restructuring with an adjustment aspect to Saturn early Sunday evening EDT. A choice is before you. Take the path that supports your own well-being and intactness
As we wind down this round of Saturn/Uranus processing, the issue of desire comes sharply into focus. Venus, retrograde in Aries warrior-goddess mode, is running toward Pluto all week and catches up with him on Friday, in a harsh aspect that cuts away the trivial and nonessential. Pluto is stripping bare every Aries planet that contacts him this spring, and this week is Venus’ turn. The love goddess rules worldly desire and money with a lower-case m, while the lord of the underworld rules compulsive, obsessive desire that roars out of the subconscious, as well as money with a capital M. This Friday (and when they meet like this again in May), issues of money, power and desire will intensify and will compel us to act on them. The voltage may skyrocket in triangulations; irresistible, magnetic attractions may abound. As appealing as they will be, we can’t have everything we crave. Something we desire – or thought we did – will be removed or relinquished. In any confrontation or skirmish at the end of the week, consider the cost; consider what is truly, deeply important to you. Is it the passing thrill of the chase? Or attaining a treasure with staying power and lasting value? If a relationship or financial matter from the past resurfaces while Pluto and Venus are contemplating his scythe, you may cut yourself loose from lingering tendrils or resolve and transform the situation. A proactive approach to this contact is certainly possible, too. Use the power of this pair to clear your psyche of outmoded or disempowering emotional and relationship patterns, or cut loose from arrangements that are no longer in alignment with your values and worth.
The day after his clash with Venus, Pluto goes retrograde, on Saturday. Between now and September 11 he will travel back to the first degree of Capricorn and will not return to the point he reaches this week until New Year’s Eve. We have the whole rest of the year to review, sort through and work with what Pluto has dredged up since he entered Capricorn at the end of last November.
